They will sell eventually. Don’t give them away, as we have been discussing in another thread, wood is too undervalued the way it is. I got rid of all my totes of “ends and pieces”. Sold em to cheap, but they are gone.
You can never have enough wood. When we started in October we had no idea what to expect, as today booked out through 2/20 and have 3 between then and the end of the month. And have 12 customers on monthly 1 cord each deliveries. Five that are every other month 1cord. We average 23 cords sold a month. All I want as a side hustle.
It's a good problem to have. We have sold out of any seasoned wood that's not already promised, except some cherry and pecan. I'm done selling personal stash, if they can’t plan better, then be cold...they won't care if we run out...
Pretty much anything I have left is reserved for regulars as most get a PU full at a time. I have some very old stuff I have a new customer for even though he is set for the season. Tells me this is his fourth year burning and what I sold him is the first time he got dry wood so he'll take whatever I sell him even though its a bit past prime. If I think I have anything sellable a month from now I'll throw it on FBM
Thats a lot of volume! Is it all dead and dry? Fresh cut dead. Fresh cut green? Do people really care up there? Or does it freeze dry within minutes of being split?
I bought a 300 cord deck that had been cut 4 years ago. Most was beetle kill some could have been green. We have run out of salvage wood that we can access from our local wildland fire of 2007 that burned 6.5 million acres. Everyone wants dry wood, they claim wood still dries in the winter, I don’t have any kind of lab equipment to know if that accurate. If it’s split and wind is on it makes since that it will. How much it dries I don’t know. Cut split green in the fall will not be less than 20% come spring. I have 15 acres to clear cut this year. I will have a better handle on what cut split green drying time.
Invest in Advil! We are about to deliver cord 88 for the season once it’s light. Never thought at 53 I would be in business with a 13 year old. Much less bucking with a chainsaw and splitting with a splitter. I am not complaining I have good gear. Future upgrades will be welcome. We are so new to the game that for me to spend money I have to easily see that I am well in the black for both affordability and profitability. Once that path seems clear I will spend money. Currently looking at a firewood processor and tracked skid steer with grapple.
If cold & dry air does to wood what it does to my hands then yes it sure does dry. How warm does it get in the Summer up there Tom?
Luckily I have a scrip for 800mg of ibuprofen. I don't take it often, but seems its being part of the daily regiment as of late. Ive been in denial of aging but my body says otherwise. Hoard on and cut safe my friend!
I’ve seen 100+ a few times. About 10 or so day of 85-90 and the rest 75+. But very low humidity unless the pressure system is coming off the Gulf of Alaska.
Advil has what the call duel action. It’s both a pain reliever and reduces swelling and it’s magic with a cup of coffee.
We’re in the same camp throwing around a 500 for the day bucking rounds—will get us in shape or kill us. I probably take Advil 2-5 times a week. I need more hydraulics in my life.
Out of curiosity, what's a cord deck ? You guys deserve every benjamin you make. As we all know, cutting and splitting wood is not easy work. Not unless you have it fully mechanized.
I've heard from friends and family from Ohio to Florida and from their complaining about the temps I bet all y'all are sold out of wood! I hope everyone made some $$$ As for Ibu, I have always only taken it when I really need it. Unfortunately, the "needed" days noticeably increased in the last year.
