Lol... Hey....I was actually looking for a Rossi myself at the time..could not source one locally. This Heney was on the shelf right there..so bit the bullet so to speak. I bet that rossi is a fine gun..and half the price !
It ain't bad for what it's for. I'll like it better when I get rid of the large loop. I bellied up and bought a Henry a few years back. Always wanted a pump 22. Finally have one.
Some pics of my Ruger-Marlin 45/70. I ordered shortly after Ruger started production, it took 2 years before I got my hands on it. The craftsmanship is beautiful, far beyond what the original Marlin SBL was, great improvements in all the right places. Smooth, fast, reliable. Jokingly named "Marla" as it sleeps in bed with me when my wife is up north working.
My only lever gun is just a plain old Marlin 30/30. It was given to me back in my early 20's by a good friend. His mother found it under his bead and blew a gasket, so it had to go somewhere, and he passed it on to me. Still have it and I know it works; it has taken its fair share of deer.
A classic, tried, tested, and true! Edit: Just to clarify, I am not saying the original Marlins are shotty, they definetly are not. But the 45/70 Marlin SBLs had some crafstmanship and reliability issues which Ruger took care of.
Not sure if this would be considered original or not? I have had it about 40 years so it is far from new as far as age. It is in great shape , he barely used it (probably had a hard time sneaking it out of the house back then) and I did hunt with it for a few years before switching to something bolt action. I still laugh about it, all I can do is picture this short little Italian woman letting him have it from both barrels so to speak. She was a very tough straight off the boat kind of woman , and still is.
I can certainly get a picture. Working a double today so if my brain is still functioning later tonight when I get home, I will get one for you. Switched hunting spots to an area that had a lot of open fields that often required longer shots so I went with a 270 bolt action , this worked perfect for the 100 yarder.
Unfortunately the Canadian gov in their infinite wisdom and uncontrolling nature deems suppresors as a threat, so they are illegal.
That's a beauty. I have noticed the excellent looks of the 'new' Marlins. It's visible when viewing random pictures on a screen even. I have an older Marlin 882L in 22wmr that hasn't been shot for a long time. It has without doubt the worst trigger of any gun I own. It's a beautiful rifle with laminate stock and nice bluing. I can't shoot it for crap with the trigger the way it is. Gotta be 7+ lbs and has creep and a terrible break. Looked into trying to remedy a while back but never got around to it. I found that I was not the only one having problems and one of the fixes (I kid you not) was a specific spring out of a specific type of ball point pen. I could not get my hands on any of the pens and gave up I think. Very happy to see Marlin properly represented with Ruger ownership. Edit: Well it looks like someone finally made a replacement. I'll scoop one of these sometime this summer and see how the rifle does. I like a 22wmr. Have a few.
They are a threat. A threat that hunters won't go deaf. They ignore that health & safety issue though, conveniently.
