Anyone familiar with long island? Bear with me here, wife and I like to take little anniv trips usually around beginning of June when we can. This year will be our 20th and while we had glamourous dreams of taking a nice big vacation, well $$ and 3 kids will put a big damper on that..... We live in S.Jersey and try to stay within a 5hr radius. Few years back we did Newport RI, we liked it lot. Good combo of some beautiful scenery, great town to grab a bite and a drink in and we found a little hiking adventure over on block island. I am not a fan of heading north in the crowded NE area but heard some nice spots on Long Island, for a short weekend fling and it's well within our driving range. Anyone know the area and could recommend I'd appreciate it. thanks in advance!
Hey Chuck- congrats on 20 years, man! It reald depends on what environment you want, $ for hotel or AirBNB, north shore, south shore (bay and ocean), or out east? Orient on the north fork, Hamptons and Montauk on the south fork. I say Suffolk county at least. I’m no fan of the western 3 counties on the Island.
If you dont want to deal w the NY traffic you can look NW and check out Milford, PA. My wife and I went there about 10 years ago and had a nice weekend. Hotel Fauchere has some really great dining options (fancy and casual) and they're both were excellent. We didnt stay at the hotel as we opted for an airb&b in the woods. Edit: I see they're not offering dinner at the Delmonico Room (that was the fancy dinner). That stinks, I had a great meal there (Pork collar). Bar Louis is the casual restaurant and I remember really liking the sushi pizza.
Being originally from S.Philly we have a few good Italian places to choose from but will certainly keep this place in mind
