Rumors are: he is running meat birds this summer and putting manure on 90* heat and humid days on the property lines.. So they can have some thing to complain about this summer too..

Imagine living your life in the way you were taught for decades, working hard for small gains. Then twords the end of your ability to do it some folks you don’t know or trust come along and tell you that you are doing it wrong and need to spend money you don’t really have to make the people you don’t really GAF about happy…

Been in this exact situation very close to a subdivision. Was nervous about the guns going off and neighbors being upset but he said not to worry.

My neighbor is directly across the road from me. He says he has never smelled a trace of smoke from mine. This description of smoke dragons is news to me. The problem is, they cause bad ordinances and statutes that hurt us.

My last OWB was in town. I kept the wood pile stocked in order to eliminate the smoke involved.

Told my boss and partner about having the OWB and they threw their hands into the air and chastised me for being part of a problem. One day, after finishing a job all three of us were on, we stopped by my place. As we pulled up, they said "Why aren't you running the OWB?" I told them it's been running since Oct. No discernible smoke. I had to show them the firebox as they couldn't believe it was running!

Never had neighbors complain.....NEVER! Until the limp-wristed, hand-wringing, whining, snowflake liberal from Colorado moved in next door. I got a call from a deputy and said "the smoke is giving him headaches". The deputy also had an OWB and commented on how little smoke he observed when he responded to Karen's call. Also said to continue doing what I'm doing. I think we moved away that summer

Turns out the neighbor had "issues". He was a real strange bird! No longer lives there as I'm told he moved on to complain somewhere else.

The whole point of this is that OWB's are given a bad reputation and viewed negatively. But, it all comes down to the owner's burning practices; I'm sure the farmer knows that.

Like most others, I see both sides. Nobody wants the government nosing into their business ( literally in this case ). IMHO people ( rich & poor alike ) down wind from this boiler should also have the right to breath clean air too.

Most, if not all states in the Northeast require all new OWB's to be gasification units because of the smoke problem from poorly ran OWB's in the past. Too bad everything is so black and white these days, a multi-pass boiler would be a lot more efficient, and probably solve his smoke issues and allow him to continue to burn what he's been burning.

Especially if it has secondary burn features in place, like the Crown Royal MP series does...which I would think most would these days?

I didn't realize their MP series had secondary burn in it. From the picture in brochure it looks like there are secondary air tubes in the top of the firebox, which would lead me to believe it might. Not unless those have water in them ? Next time I see one at a show I'll have to look more.

I reviewed the Indiana requirements. Says cannot burn green wood. Heck 95 percent of Hoosiers don’t start cutting firewood until November, when it becomes a priority. Most hav3 no idea what seasoned firewood is.

This is probably most of the issue right here. Unfortunately it seems to work as far as getting the heat required. I'm sure there are plenty that go with the 'longer burn' theory to try to justify. I would say the main reason that boilers use green wood is because they use a LOT of wood and probably cannot get ahead without an intense effort or lots of $$.

That's how it is here too. I've had people make snide comments to me when I tell them I'm two years ahead.

Heck, I had 2 different people this year ask me if I had enough wood yet, and they both heat with wood! One almost totally, and one is a hobby heater, simply for fun, and to keep the house 78* instead of 70* :picard:
    As always, I said "NO!"

I dunno. My BIL's old boiler would plug off an 8' stick of pipe at least twice a year.
