I remember my cat contorting like a twisted pretzel on the hardwood floor in front of the insert. Looked like the most uncomfortable position but he was in seventh Heaven. What's the cats name Timberdog?
Many years ago, we had an english setter. We also had a grey 1/2 siamese cat that could be a holy terror when it wanted. It was afraid of nothing except the inside of a car. It would tease the dog unmercifully sometimes. One night the dog was curled up in front of the fire and the cat walked in and apparently decided it wanted that spot as well. Rather than bully the dog, it curled up against its belly. The poor dog was petrified to even move. After a while we picked up the cat so the dog could get up.
Our 20lb orange long hair sits in front of the stove every morning. His way of telling us to get the fire going. Once it's warm he gets comfortable. Does your cat inch away from the stove little by little as the stove gets hotter?
My great aunt who was a widow, had 2 bulldogs and many cats. She lived in a massive stone farmhouse with a wood cookstove going all the time in the winter. The dogs lived by the side of the stove, cats claimed the back by the wall.
Excuse the mess, including a chunk of Black Locust my new puppy decided to chew up. This year I decided to try burning oil. 32 years here and I’ve never burned oil for a winter. Heck 63 years old and I’ve never burned oil anywhere, figured it’s on the bucket list of things to try. Along with owning a cat, that’s a first too Anyway we had a cold spell down to single digits. Couldn’t resist tossing some BL in the stove. The point of all this is this is the first time the puppy and cat put aside hating each other and laid down to enjoy a fire. They say music soothes the savage beast, I say it’s fire. Merry Christmas ya filthy animals
Those cats don't exactly look happy...by the looks of the eyes and ears, looks like there's getting ready to be a reckoning....
