I was going to get another 3 tons of Matra’s, but the local supplier was out. They had the AWFs in stock and were a bit cheaper vs. the Matra’s; AWFs were $365 ton. (I bought them from BT Pellets for the CT Crew) I burned a ton of these years ago when the big box stores used to carry a variety of pellets. They burned well. And for the few bags I’ve run through the stove this season, so far so good. Heat output is very good, very little ash and fines in the bag seem to be less vs the Matra’s. A few pics. Interestingly enough, they were delivered on two skids vs one. I do like the local suppliers vs the big box stores; some store their pellets inside vs outside. I’ll keep this thread updated as the weather cools and I’ll have more bags run through the stove.
I fired my stove up this past weekend at night. Matras twee the flavor of the day. Now it's back to the windows open today.
Agreed. I think they are slightly better than the Matra’s for funneling. However, I do need to deep clean the angled part of the hopper.
I had 2 ton of those last year. They burned ok for me in my Harmon insert. Had more fines than usual though.
I’m about 3/4 of the way through the first ton, so time for an update! Heat output: Very good! These pellets throw out some nice heat. We have the stove hooked up to a wifi t-stat and leave it on a set temp. The way the stove is designed, it’ll run on the desired setting, then back down when it gets to the set point. This can cause a bit of haze on the the glass. However, a bit of time running normally burns that right off. Ash: These have a bit more ash than the Matra’s. I noticed this in the ash pan. However, certainly much less ashy than other pellets I’ve burned in the past. Softwoods require much less frequent cleanings for our stove. Fines: They certainly have some. Not as bad as the Matras, but worth being mindful off. I put the pellets in the coal hod and use that to dump in the stove. I’m careful not to dump in the very last bit from the bottom as that’s where the fines seem to hang out. Over all, great pellets!
Wow, 3/4 ton already. Im way less, but will be burning steady with this weekends cold snap. Get ready, January could be the real deal.
I was kinda surprised too. Then again, I’m working from home a few days a week and we aren’t heading north every single weekend. More time to burn pellets!
I still have about 35 bags of these in the bunker from a 2019 TSC purchase. The TSC stores around here used to get a wide variety of pellets like this from all over the place, those were the good old days. Not so much anymore. Anyway love these, they are at the bottom of a pile, looking forward to getting to burn them again.
burned Matra for few years.. Great heat/zilch ash but way to much fines.. since I burn 24/7 we usually fill up the P61a Hopper at half or 1/4 full.. problem was never got to see the bottom of the hopper until the stove stopped due to fines dam.. so fix was to reach down when low and stir things up at the slide plate..
Similar issues with the Matra’s last year. I started letting the hopper get low almost daily, then took and inspection mirror and used that to push down the fines.
EasyBlaze Softies are Not far behind in the excessive fines dept.. the only softwood in my stash that don't are the doug firs.. [ better not for the price!!
