I learned not to judge a book by its cover when it comes to tree guys. Had a 22" EWP taken down a few years ago. It was too close to the house and we had a huge limb break off in an ice storm, so it had to go.
Hired a tree service. Day of the work, I heard the saws go off and the guy was up the tree before I got outside. Very impressive watching him work. About 35 mins and the whole thing was down, limbs and trunk.
When he got down, I remember thinking, if I would have seen him before he got into the tree, there is no way I would have let him work that tree, with it so close to the house.
Face tattoos, dreadlocks, hat backwards...none of it mattered. Dude could work and he knew what he was doing.

If they were there (work) and were mildly productive, then they're ok in my book. Depending on how bad you loose the birth lottery, sometimes it takes a few decades to catch up, if you catch up at all.

Each one teach one and we'll all prosper.

Well I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I've seen similar in all trades/jobs etc, but you don't get a second chance to make a first impression.

Hopefully they charged you by the hour if he was done in 35 minutes! :D

Hahaha. I wish it was an hourly charge... It actually took the 3 guys on the ground about 3 times as long to do all the clean up work.

Moving rounds is not fun at all. It sounds like you needed both multiple saws and multiple chains. Now that it has been a few days do you still feel like you are happy with the size of your operation or are you wishing you could grow just a bit?

I'm sure the boss was amazed at Brad "The Wood Yard Tornado"! All kidding aside, most employers nowadays are happy to get someone who is barely competent. When they get a worker who is task oriented instead of hour oriented and gets after it, they are ecstatic!

Spent another day there bucking logs. Just him and I and it worked out much better. His bobcat was back in action and he does much better with a familiar machine. He staged logs in 3-4 areas while I bucked. He was pleased at days end. Worked in short sleeves most of the afternoon.
400 & 460 on duty with just a 20" bar. Dead ash, red oak, cherry and soft maple were the victims.

    :picard:
Too busy to take pics plus he was moving/pushing rounds into existing piles so hard to get an idea of what I actually cut. It was dusk when I finished and thought to take any.

Got a message from him today. From the sounds of it I have a long term, part time job if I so desire.
