Took a doe 2nd day of gun after I passed on 4 on the first day. Had a nice buck in at about 100 yards on Thursday and Sat evening which would have been an easy shot for the 350 but he was in small trees so couldn't get a good scope on him. I'll be out for next Sat morning again. My hunting partner I have hunted with for 35 years got a nice 9 point Thur morning.

I know this is the deer season thread, and I did take a doe, but I saw lots of other wildlife this weekend.

    A doe for grandads freezer.

Alot of doe to choose from.

This possum was getting a drink.

Shot my first turkey. Bearded hen, about 7 inches.

She was the only one with a beard in the group.

    These skunks were HUGE.

    Nice! What's that hunting rig?

I've been wanting to shoot a bearded hen. If I could get one with an 8 in or so beard, she might would have to go on the wall with my double bearded gobbler.

Did you process the pigs for eating? Or do they just toss them down there?

The rifle is a Remington American Predator in 308 WIN with a Dead Air Nomad 30 silencer, and Leupold 3-9x40 Freedom. It has a fantastic trigger out of the box.

It's a factory 18" barrel that is threaded. It comes with 3 round magazines, but you can call customer support and buy an insert from them that will use AICS magazines, to run whatever size you want (3, 5, 10, 20 round). I use the 5 rounders.

The pigs are kill on sight because they are destructive. I have processed many, but I left this one to the scavengers.

I've heard that the light ones with spots have more domestic pig genes and are better eating than the solid black Russians, but I've never noticed a difference in the crockpot.

....thinking that's supposed to be Ruger....? Is that your gun for deer and hogs, or just hogs? Are you shooting subs or supers?

Is that vehicle an old jeep? Or some kind of utv?

Totally understand about the destruction wild hogs can do...saw it in Florida years ago. Amazing that an animal that's fairly small can tear up the ground like that....

Yes, Ruger. Good catch. It was late for me.

It's amazing how the pigs plow with their snout, especially in sandy soils.

    Great hunt!!!

Always wanted to know how those wild hogs taste..........I hear mixed opinions on it.

Am all bout hunting some pork, bacon, ribs, pulled pork, etc....Now we are talking.

Not much up here in NJ. We apparently had some but they were hunted out quick.

My son knocked this one out tonight, he said the 35 Whelen put him right down. No wandering off like when being shot with a 350 Legend.

My son bagged a nice bodied 8 point. Not the biggest rack, but respectable for our area. image000000(16).jpg

We are into late muzzleloader season here in Iowa and I got a nice doe this evening when she came out into the soybean field to pick up some supper.

That wasn’t very nice to shoot before she had a chance at a last meal.

I am seeing more folks out muzzleloader hunting than I did during shotgun season.

Last I knew there’s were still around 400!tags left for our county. There may be enough left over for a high power season.

Pretty tough, and the meat from the males will sometimes have what's called boar taint ( the meat stinks, some people call smell and taste it, other can't ). The sows are usually pretty skinny because they have piglets on them and the boars are generally pretty good size and have some decent meat on them. We quarter them out, and get everything made into sausage and brats. The buzzards, eagles, coyotes, and bobcats get the rest of the hog.

We went on a wild goose chase at first, we followed the trail of the deer that ran away. Went back to first blood and Marie found the deer. 50 yards from where she was arrowed. Not the biggest doe but I got busted and she hung around.

Two deer in the freezer and one hanging up. It’ll freeze up and hang for at least a week. That’s it I’m tagged out for my county. No plans to hop counties.
