I have a 194t and if you modify the muffler it will gain a lot, I do a little timing advance also some guys don’t up to you but the muffler mod will make a noticeable change. They run close to a stock 201 after you do it.

Ok, will give it a go. Might buy a new muffler and experiment on that.

MM will make a nice difference. I just cut out the section with almost the little holes in it behind the cover.
Did you see the video of our MS180?

Sounds to me like maybe rich. Extra fuel building up at idle needs “blown out “ when you trigger the throttle. I have my 394 tuned that way. If it’s not stalling out, no harm in that extra oil in there for that short amount of time (imo).

Took every bit of my willpower to not buy this over the weekend.

Really no need, open the slot behind the deflector and screen ups all the way to edge, open the deflector slot up some and connect the holes in baffle on inside. This will make noticeable difference but will need you to retune it also more than likely. Been running mine 4 years this way and I cut about 15 thousands off internal key way on flywheel for an advance. Deflectors are sold separately for 3.99 if you want to put it back stock.

Not that Brad needs another saw quest (good luck finding one!) but Stihl did build a 45+cc top handle. They are RARE for all the right reasons (they were turds) but the MS191T was 46.5cc.

Then there was the 08 S - 60cc. But that's not a "real" top handle IMO. (Just weird!)

Have you seen an 009 with an 012 top end put in? Read about it on AS a few years back

I have seen the 191 top handles. What makes them a turd? Poor design, bad engines? etc

Super long restrictive air intake made of plastic that preheated the air coming into the carb. Drew air in from back of handle and the air was pulled way up front to the carb that was up by flywheel and fed reeds on front of block. Couldn’t feed it enough air to make power. Not to mention the air was preheated all the way to the carb so that doesn’t help either.

So despite the CC rating it never made the said power? Guys never tried to port them or was it a lost cause to begin with?

The 019t got a bump in size to become the 191 but the 020t and ms200t handled better and had more power so the 191 just died off. Small reeds and the restrictive air intake made it not flow enough on the intake side I would think that port work to improve flow would be a waste. 14 in picture is intake pipe from air filter to carb then all the other restrictions make it hard to feed enough air to 46.5-47 cc

Got about 10+ tanks and 1000+ buckeye trees on the ground with this saw. Real happy with it.

Leaned out the L and it got rid of the hesitation between trees.

I pulled the muffler and decided I don't have the tools or patience to mess with it right now. It could use more power so I will eventually.

All I can say is try it . If your running a 562 , a 28" bar is as long as they go .

An 090 will eat a 660 for breakfast with a 5 foot or longer . With the bar full.
The big falling saws aren't impressive with small wood . But for getting big timber off the stump and bucking big logs. A Big falling saw is the ticket .

I can look but I might have a pre done used muffler and flywheel for the 194 I’ve gotten a few that lost crank bearings as parts saw but overall they’ve been great for the money. If I have one and you want it I could box it up to send you it for 10-15$ plus shipping then you wouldn’t need to modify your stock stuff if you ever decide to go back

I’m not 100% with you on that one I have a 56” on my 066 round top that’s slightly warmed over and had up till recently an 090 that was low hours and as strong as it was going to get and I think the 066 would take it for sure it was as fast but I think it was faster. .404 on 090 and 3/8 on the 066.

That's a great offer but I have a deal in the works for one. My buddy does tree work and one got dropped last week and he said it isn't repairable and he isn't going to keep a 194 anymore. I should be able to get a billet muffler in trade for a simple woodworking project that will take me less time to do than it would to hog out a muffler. He said the saw ran awesome until it hit the pavement.

Hypothetically speaking, after my warranty period is up, how much timing would this saw benefit from?
