Hey everyone, lots of familiar names here. Glad to be over here. Thought Id share my most recent score as an intro. Ive got a tree man that brings me logs in an NPR dump truck whenever I want. Its a pretty good set up Anyways, he showed up the other day with some nice straight white oak and some magnolia. I (like Im sure many of you are) am a wood nerd, so I was pretty excited about the magnolia since you rarely see it as firewood. Dont have any good pics of the magnolia at the moment, but it was pretty easy to split. Wide growth rings. Kinda reminds me of poplar. We'll see how it dries. Below are some pics of the white oak 1/4s all stacked up. Theres another row behind that stack you cant see. Split up real nice, probably ended up with 1/2 cord of white oak and 1/3 cord of magnolia Also pictured is my new woodhauler! My old bronco died on me Got a good deal on this dodge. 1990 with a 360 & a 4 speed manual transmission (My first stick, what better way to learn than to have one as your only vehicle ). I already like hauling with a pickup much better, and the 3/4 ton capacity is nice. Anyways, Ill quit rambling. Glad to be a part of the forum!
When you say poplar I am guessing you mean tulip poplar which makes sense on the magnolia splitting like tulip poplar. Tulip poplar isn't in the poplar family it is in the magnolia family.

Exactly what I meant. I was wondering about the relation earlier today as a matter of fact! Thanks for the info Locust- that truck is from colorado believe it or not. Moved down to Tennessee around 2000 and ended up in a barn in georgia 3 years ago. I bought it off a guy who flips old vehicles. Underside is pretty rust free. Someone took good care of it

That is a sweet looking pile of splits.... I can't even imagine wood like that being delivered... Very cool... I used to work in Marietta off 41 really close to stone mountain. We would take our lunch break and drive up the hill and have lunch.., good memories.... Welcome to the forum.
Small world! Yep I live a couple miles from the mountain. More accurately, I live on top of it since it spreads out underground for a huge radius around the actual mountain

Cool workhorse you have there. Many years ago I owned a Dodge Dakota 1/2 ton. It was one of the first years with the "new" then V8 Magnum. It was a good work truck. But not a heavy hauler like yours. That's in nice shape.
Beat me to it. Sellers around here say magnolia because people are turned off by tulip and poplar but dint know what magnolia is. I use it for the firepit. Burns bright, fast (get to play!), and no coals to worry about when you turn in for the night. Welcome and sweet truck!
And that 360 is a real workhorse. I had a '74 with an AT back in the 80's. Take care of it and it will serve you well for many years. Welcome to the nut house.
