Hey all, so I got in touch with a lady that had some trunks on the ground. Perfect score for me, as I prefer to cut stuff to length myself rather than deal with somebody else's idea of 16". She says it was 3 trees, all the same species. No leaves, and the ID app is having a hard time. I was thinking something in the poplar/boxelder/linden universe. Very water heavy, but some of the smaller dried out branches seem very light. Was able to back the small trailer right up to the pile, cut until it got dark. Hope to go back later this week for the rest!
Oh, even I know this one! That there is firewood! I don’t actually have any idea what kind of wood that is, but it is in nice manageable rounds. Nice grab!
Cottonwood. It's very stringy. Best to split with the rings of the wood not across the center and work it down until you have the center small enough to burn.
Mine usually gets it pretty close, but i was thinking maybe someone has a more specific answer along with a reason for it. Good looking pup in your pic!

Poplar basalm or gray I think (not tulip). Bark looks a bit thin for cottonwood imo I've only got it once but the bark was like a inch thick.
No, the only leaves were oak and maple, from trees still standing. They went to town on the yard cleanup so it was a big mixup.
Cottonwood has a darker core. I agree that it’s either Aspen, balsam poplar, or one of those nursery stock hybrid poplars that are becoming more prevalent out there. It’s definitely in the populus genus. For firewood purposes they’re probably all more or less equal. Also I might have to change my opinion on Stihls. I’m super impressed that you were able to drop this tree and buck it with only a weedwhacker
Looks a little bit like bigtooth aspen with the thin bark. The inside of the bark might smell like a neglected kitty litter box if it hasn't been lying around too long.
I agree with big tooth aspen, if you can get some bark of and the woods still fairly fresh the inside of the bark will stink and also be kind of a yellow color and almost slimy
