Phew…..no ants, clean, dry, no rot, I’m tired of buying wood that doesn’t burn, I’m sick of it I want a hot fire, it better be a full load, did you cut the wood, how long has it dried…. Mam this is a Wendy’s I said I can fill that order(demand) Hopefully the frost has run off the bugs My guess is they are open fireplace burner’s and struggling. My professional grade oak may not change her mind, but I will give some pointers to Ken. A couple cool nights and my phone is ringing I hope it’s a good season for y’all One humble brag is a new customer said it’s the best firewood he’s ever seen.
I left out one important detail. I said I’m leaving town in the morning for my son’s wedding. “I want it today”
I delivered to them and the husband and son helped me unload. Karen wanted it stacked on the porch, but husband gave me the option to toss off, so we tossed. I had to get home and pack. They are burning in an open fireplace so I recommended adding pine or poplar to start the fire. Karen didn’t like Poplar because it pops, so they ordered a load of pine. I also recommended they get an insert to get more heat. They are living in a big, old 2 story farmhouse with a heat pump. The son is a woodworker so I showed him a few pieces of Hickory he could make hatchet handles with.
Sounds like they want designer firewood. Everyone wants it right away. I try to accommodate new customers or FBM sales but regulars know and wait. Not to brag either but I have been told the same many times. You make some good product and take pride in the quality...especially the seasoning. I'm actually worried about putting up enough to keep customers happy next year. I have a few deliveries set up for the next week and with the current chill a newbie for BL last year messaged me yesterday. I have a couple far away BL customers I'd like to get rid of, but don't have the heart. Good luck with sales and make those Benjamins!
Make the long distance delivery and inform the customer that you can't make any more deliveries. Better than running out of deliverable product. As a one-man operation, you do what you can.
Sounds like you're doing a great job! I got a FB review last week that said the following, "I get my fire pit wood from you guys. I love it. It lights quick and burns great. And I feel like I get a lot for the price. Will continue to buy from you. I come from Columbia City and it's well worth the drive." That's in a town about 20 minutes away. They pick up at my roadside stand. As long as you provide a quality product at a fair price (not necessarily cheap) and do what you say you will, you'll have plenty of business. Happy selling!
Good sale. How do you convince folks to buy it? Mention pine around here and they run and look at you like you've got three heads.
I told them it is dry and wouldn’t burn down the house. They have an open fireplace so I recommended using a piece of pine to get there oak burning. I’m going to have to get some more pine logs because I don’t have 1/3 cord of split pine left. I had to move a bunch of Persimmon splits to get at this pine. I had planned on using it myself.
Around here the firewood makers/sellers used to advertise and discount their product during the Summer. Not any more. A year or two of either running out or not being able to keep up with delivering in Nov/Dec/Jan has locked in (higher) prices. Housing starts are way down too so their supply from lot clearing has dried up.
Always nice to get a text from a customer who appreciates your product, especially when they have been "burned" by other sellers.
Out here most sell wet wood, like somehow unseasoned pine is okay Anyway the last purchase a few weeks ago was pretty much seasoned. Impressed. Posted on FB after posting on here.
Cant tell you how often I get new customers who tell me the same. Either green/underseasoned and/or shorted. I've delivered half cords and the amazed buyer proceeds to say "the other guy was ripping me off" Glad you found some decent firewood! Need to have a GTG and we'll make some firewood for you.
Fortunate I can buy 2 years+ ahead, and it dries in place with our climate, but heartbreaking how many chimney fires here. My husband inspected his late business contacts widow's home for a leak. Apparently she had chimney fires that didn't burn her house down, creasote melted the asphalt shingles around the chimney pipe.
2 years ago a family we're friendly with (kids went to the same schools and I used to buy beef from her) had a chimney fire, the dad/husband perished. So sad.
