All that's left are a couple small (2-3" diameter) limbs and a fairly large trunk base, which is rotten in the center unfortunately. So I'm calling it done there until spring when he takes down the other apple trees. Apparently his horses were eating the apples and getting sick, hence the need to take them down. For now he has fencing around them to keep the horses away. I may end up taking the leftover knotty oak pieces and noodling everything. White oak is my favorite and hard to come by. Although, this year I've scrounged about 2.5 cords of it somehow
Now that you have a bunch of trigger time on the 61, how are you liking it? My son is eager to get his 281 in some big wood. Got it all together and no spark. He replaced the module and coil so hoping it's something easy. Just need to get up there and check it out.
I really like the 61, especially since changing out the AV mounts. It’s snotty enough for most of what I cut, and feels a lot more nimble with a smaller powerhead than the 029 it replaced. Once my 372XP is fixed, that’ll be my workhorse for bigger wood, and the 455 rancher will be for the small to mid size stuff. I don’t want to beat on the old 61 too much, having sentimental value. Good luck with the 281; sounds like a good learning experience.
