Used Stihl 241 value?

Good memory Brad! That was like 3 years ago. I went with a 261 instead, after handling a 400 in the store it was going to be too heavy to limb with. Think I’ll make an offer on the 241, I’ll update.

Not sure, Stihl’s usually command a higher price here than they do up north.

 

if that was true they wouldn’t have quit selling them here. It’s a nice saw but not worth as much as a ms 400. I should have bought that new one that sat on the shelf forever could have doubled my money i guess. They quit selling here because nobody that runs a stock saw thought it was enough lighter and cheaper that the 261 to take the power loss stock which is what 80% run.

 

Look dumb azz, have you priced them? They, since being discontinued here, have a cult following and high pricing wether you like it or not. They have a higher resale than a vanilla, anyone can get one 261. The fact that they are 2.5 pounds lighter than a 261 when fueled and ready to cut makes them an excellent all-round saw.

 

No different than someone paying a grand for a 200T when they could buy a new 201 for less.

 

Exactly, junk 200T’s go for like ~$500. The other fact is they (241) are still available new, albeit with a $1000 price tag. To most, that isn’t worth it, especially when you can get a similar weigh/cc saw (543/4350, 4310sx) for around $5-600. That is just simple market economics, if you pledge blind allegiance to Stihl, you pay what you pay. I got to run a ported one before I committed to a new 543XP(ran one of these ported as well), then a minty one came available and I bit as I saw several that sold north of $700.

 

I concur. I got lucky and got mine for $600 shipped from Iowa. Brand new. I wouldn't pay a $1000 to get a new one here from overseas. Not a chance. Not any saw. If mine got stolen or burnt up in a fire id probably buy a 501P echo and have all the sausage stuffed in it.

 

that’s fine I see you point just saying I have an opinion and you can pay whatever the heck you want for one like anybody else can. I also understand with your health’s the lightest saw you can get is better for you. I think anyone who pays 700-1000 $ for a 200t is crazy too makes no difference what some will pay doesn’t change my opinion on it being too much. Anyone is more than welcome to pay what they were new now.

 

I've yet to hear anyone, health problems or not say...man, I wish this saw was a couple pounds heavier. Saw weight matters to everyone. Some more than others or earlier in life than others. I'm not the one and only 241 owner that has created the following they have. There is a reason.

 

I agree they cut well when ported and are light but stock they won’t outperform a 261 and 80% of them sold new were probably staying that way. Not says stihl wasn’t fudging numbers some but they didn’t list that large a weight difference in the sales tags. So for the pound or a bit more lighter, less power and only saving 50$ is why you can’t go to the dealer and buy one tomorrow is all I was getting at. The 200t fad is dying some now too being the 201’s been worked out and makes a bit more power on both forms. No its not maybe as durable but easier on the operator with spring av.

 

Of course they won't outcut a 261 stock vs stock. They are 7cc smaller. As to the weight, my buddy and I both weighed our saws. Both full and both with 16" stihl light bars. My 241 is 2.5 pounds lighter than his 261. The working weight is what matters, not the power head only weight.

 

They run different bars though so that will account for some of your weight loss, the 3005 16” bar is a fair bit smaller than the 3003 16” bar. A 18” 3005 is probably more equal in cut length ect and I think uses the same chain as the 16 3003. And I realize light is important but it’s not all about weight because if it was you’d just use your 2511 for everything and the 241 wouldn’t be there even because it’s got to be at least a 2.5 lb drop from the 241 to 2511. Fact of the matter is everyone has an opinion on what’s important and while nobody wishes a saw was heavier we all accept that to get the power we want or need it’s going to gain weight. So you included are willing to carry more weight for power to a point like anyone else it’s just I’m willing to carry 14 lbs or so to use my ported 400 and finish sooner is all. It all comes down to preference, willing to work a bit harder for a shorter time with a big saw or carry the lightest saw you have for longer being bent over longer. There is no one fits all answer, I’m glad you like the 241 and I do too just I’ll never pay what they want for one.
