I got the chimney cleaned out good before firing it up. But, I have some maintenance to do over the next week or two.
Gasifier remind us how many cord you use and what you heat?? 14 years is a great testimonial for a heater in north east!!
When we had real winters I would go though 25-27 face cord, or a little more, depending when I started and stopped burning of course. That was when it would get down below -20 often. But, for several winters now I always have firewood leftover. From 3-6 face cord. And we rarely see it get below zero. I heat about 4200 sq.ft. of living space, 800 sq.ft. of insulated garage to 45 F, and our domestic hot water during the heating season.
Before I bought the boiler I was heating as much of the house as I could with a Pacific Energy Super 27. A nice stove. But with the winters so cold back then I researched and learned about Wood Gasification boilers. Having a boiler system in place already, I decided I might as well heat everything for as long as I can and save a bunch of money over that timeframe. I do miss the glass door of the stove though. But love keeping the in my bank account instead of the oil company’s!
I have been burning in excess of 40 years with gasification with storage; the savings definitely in our bank account not the oil companies! Sometimes it has been suggested that I burn Apples!!!
Replaced the nozzle with new ceramics in the Wood Gun this weekend along with breaking up the old sealant on the exhaust pipe and resealing all the joints/seams. The colder temperatures are getting here. Slow but sure.
My brother just replaced the (loose) nozzle in the their HeatMaster G10000 OWB and he said he noticed an immediate efficiency improvement.
My FIL gets two seasons out of his, maybe 3 if he's really lucky. Mine has some wear/erosion, but still no smoke out the stack.
My brother was not getting smoke either, at least not noticeably...he was talking to the dealer about the nozzle condition and the fact that it was loose, dealer said that's not right, should be cemented in, and HM has new improved nozzle design, so he decided to replace it, and now realizing that it was affecting efficiency quite a bit. Is yours refractory, or steel? The new G series (2020+) uses stainless steel.
Mine is refractory. I might call my dealer and see how much a new one is. Not a bad thing to have a spare sitting ready to go.
