Been a while..
Had to send old man Billy Bob over the rainbow bridge tonight. The past 18 years have been great, will likely never encounter a stray that brought me that kind of fulfillment.

 

Sorry to hear this. 18 years is a nice long time to have a fur child but still not long enough when it comes to say goodbye.

 

Condolences for your loss. It is tough to make the decision that is the kindest thing to do for our furry friends.

Wednesday I took receipt of a kitty for foster. She is a young street kitty, probably about 1 year old who has already had 2 litters that the lady who was finally able to trap her knew about. She is extremely scared as you can imagine, most likely never knowing the inside of a house, much less people. I am calling her Lila. I don't know why, but that popped into my head when I got up yesterday morning, and it seems to have stuck in my mind.

I have a room set up with a tall, cat-proof gate that keeps her separate from my two cats. Once we released her into the room, she disappeared behind a dresser (she found that place in like 1.5 seconds. At least I thought it was behind the dresser. She did poop/pee in the early morning of Thursday, but that was it - she didn't eat at all. Yesterday afternoon, I looked behind the dresser and she wasn't there. She wasn't anywhere. After some investigation, I discovered the back of the dresser opens into a small hidey-hole that goes beneath the drawers. That section is closed away from the drawers. After some thought, I decided she needed to come out from there and to block up that section. This was just a matter of safety so that I could get eyes on her to make sure there wasn't anything going on that needed attention.

Once I managed to flush her out she found the bay window, behind the plants and ensconced herself there.



She did eat both canned and kibble sometime while I was sleeping last night, so that alleviates my worry. Next step is to get her litter trained. Her first attempt Wednesday night she used the newspapers that I put under the litter box. Well, at least she was close. I placed a pee pad underneath and see this morning that she used that. Although, I think she used the litter too (I had scooped a depression in the middle of the litter and it is no longer there). Once I clean litter boxes for the day, I'll find out what she did (for all I know, she was just entertaining herself).

This will be a long road to get her to trust me enough I can get her in a carrier and to a vet for shots and check-up. Then later, a spay. I don't know what the future looks like, she may be a foster "fail", or maybe I'm preparing her for another loving family. But that is for the fates to work out.

 

Congrats, our latest hid for the first 2 months...He is still a hider when company comes.

Oh yeah - I kept thinking I knew someone with a cat named Lila, but for the life of me couldn't remember who. It was you I was thinking of

 

This morning Lila is at the door meowing and chirping. She doesn't want my attention as she bolts if I move to look. I have not yet actually seen her at the gate - but my office is right beside the room, so can tell she is there. I don't know if she is trying to be friendly with Spot and Rainey (who at this point are unimpressed), or whether she is just a vocal cat. Or, maybe she likes that every once in a while I will talk or croon to her, or meow back in response.

I came home the other day and sometimes she likes sleeping in her dog cave.
