Just kinda starting to look for a new air compressor. I have a little hot dog one that is nice to carry around for little stuff but my bigger very tired old one is on deaths door (i got it used 20+ years ago and it was probablyat least 20 years old then). I don't run a lot of air tools at home(I can use the shop at work and take full advantage). Probably looking for a 20-30 gallon one and I want oil lubricated. What's a good price, vertical vs horizontal advantages, does brand matter, motor size, anything else to look for?

    Hello
Usually the vertical ones cost less, save space and work well for a home unit.
    There are basically 3 types:
    Oiless
    Splash lube
Full Pressure Pressure Lube with spin filter.
    There are some good brands
    Quincy
    Ingersol Rand
    Campbell Hausfeld
    Many others
We have Quincy Full lube that we really like with the separate air cooler for clog free white aluminum oxide media blasting the pellet stove burnpot clean and soda blasting the BBQ grill. :)
    Good luck

Good brands mentioned. One good one you forgot is Jenny Air.

I have a 30 gallon 'Campbell' frankenstein model that I pieced together. Been working great for years now with occasional use.

For my personal shop use I bought a (Campbell Hausfield?) 20 gallon horizontal for easy maneuverability with a twin piston oil lubed belt drive pump, and the largest motor I could find that would run on my 20A 220V outlet...it's 5 hp and the pump makes something like 12 cfm at 90 psi (something like that anyways...I know it would run an air sander non stop when I was still spraying bedliners) it's put in many hours since I bought it new in 1998.
