The city has started work cleaning up an old WWII factory. There's a pile of BL sitting by the side of the road and I just drove by it. Got half a mind to throw it in the trunk on my way back from lunch if its still there.

There was a surveyor guy nearby I might ask about it. Think I should just grab it even if I can't find anyone?

Well, I asked the guy driving the skid steer if it was free for the taking, and he nodded. I loaded up my little Saturn Ion with as much as I could fit. :D Man I need a pickup!:picard:There was a good 1/2 cord of it there, and they were still hauling it out. Looked like all BL. Thinking about taking a half day and grabbing everything I can...

Too much glare to get any good pics, but I'll post some later. Poor old girl is squatting something fierce

Had a meeting at work from 2-3, so I couldn't get out before then. Drove by on my way home; didn't look like anybody had touched it, so I sped over to my sister's house to borrow my BIL's truck. There were 3 pickups there when I got back, and they had already loaded up all the locust. :( Ended up with a load of 2 "mystery" woods, which I'm pretty sure are garbage.

Think this is Tree of Heaven - smells like cow poo - split really easy:
    IMG_1385.JPG IMG_1389.JPG

Not sure on this one, but it smelled an awful lot like poplar. Split like it too - really wet and stringy. The bark wasn't attached, but it was supposedly from these rounds.
    IMG_1386.JPG IMG_1388.JPG

But, at least I had the load from the car! :D
    IMG_1390.JPG IMG_1382.JPG IMG_1383.JPG IMG_1393.JPG

Think I got some of the biggest trunk pieces, but there was another 3 pickup loads of BL that I missed. :( Two of the guys had full loads of it, and the one guy said he was just around the corner, and it was his second load. The other guy had a bed full of Ailanthus.  Poor guy he was the only one there with a chainsaw too - and boy did that thing need to be sharpened!

There's still more BL trees there that need to come down, so I'll keep my eye out for next time. Got a friend who lives pretty close by, so if I spot it on my lunch break again, I'll spend the whole time hauling it over to his house. He only burns in a firepit outside, so he'll be happy with some garbage wood. Already offered to spend a weekend in my woods with him cutting up dead poplar to take.

This garbage wood will end up going to him too. I thought about dumping it right at his place on the way home, but I guess I was curious to get a positive ID on it.

I'd guess the first splits are tree of heaven.
The second one's not Poplar, possibly black gum or winged Elm if you have that up your way

Oh, but that was not the end of today's hoarding adventures! Oh no! Had some daylight left, so I hauled load #2 of the ash I dropped the other day.

PS - the timber tongs also make an excellent PI vine removal tool. You can use the spike to claw up the end of it, and the tong to scrape between the tree and the vine when necessary. You'll of course want long sleeves and gloves for this task, and immediately take a shower when you get back to the house. I managed to strip the entire vine off in 3 pieces.
