I milled a locust tree earlier this year for a couple projects. I was in the shop this morning and my miter saw blade dang near polished these cuts. All the same tree .. interesting growth patterns. Some rings are less than 1/16", others close to 1/2". One of these days I'm going to make a BL end grain cutting board.
I always marvel at all end grains. Yeah that BL is some hard stuff. Ive seen BL with 3/4 growth rings. That BL cutting board would be sweet.
Black locust cutting board might be kinda hard on knives…I’ve seen sparks fly off my chain cutting that stuff. Lol
You got a million dollars worth of cutting boards sitting in the field...well unless you've turned it into firewood already.
Yeah sanded smooth as a baby’s butt and applied cutting block oil. Basically just an ultra pure food grade mineral oil. There’s a product called Board Butter I want to try. Bought some, gave it to the woman. Maybe this weekend if I remember I’ll try it out.
This was a large branch “elbow” sliced up. I was expecting double pith,,,,,not sure why it didn’t happen LOL One of the few pieces of BL left at that time that was well seasoned already in log form. Didn’t have time to dry them out.
