Amazing! Buts begs for the question to be asked......."why wasn't this covered by conventual news outlets??" Is the media controlled that much??
I saw that yesterday after I got home, had to watch it on Y-tube. Awesome stuff goin on at SpaceX. Glad my company has a hand (bearings) in their success.
It's humbling to think of what went into making all this happen. A few short years ago I did some freelance subcontractor CNC programming work for a company that was subcontracted to make some SpaceX parts, and I'm pretty sure they were given the job by another larger subcontractor. I started seeing SpaceX blueprints pop up in all sorts of local machine shops. And that's just a small snippet of whatever engine/fuel delivery hardware that was farmed out in my local area. You think of every fastener, every piece of sheet metal, bearings, all the electronics, the rare earth metals and raw materials, armies of engineers etc. and it's mind-boggling. A gargantuan effort with real world results made possible by the private sector.
Truth! It doesn't matter the vision, if there's not an army of workers to help see it to fruition. My employer didn't hire me and keep me on because he likes me.. I fill a vital position in his company. At some point, I will be training someone else to carry that load.
Also, one must remember, without persons with vision, we wouldn't be where we are today. Someone has to create a job in order for someone to have that job. Even self employed individuals would find no work if there wasn't someone who needed work done, and didn't want to (or couldn't) do it for themselves. I know a lot of "fertilizer" has been dumped on the "blue collar" worker over the past few decades. But I am proud of what I do. More people need to realize and be proud of what they do. If the job wasn't necessary, they wouldn't have it.
And it seems to be popular to be bashing Musk but he certainly has vision and tries to make things better.
A lot of people like to bash on another's successes, I think it says a lot about the person doing the bashing. Although if the goal is to terraform Mars to make it livable for humans, that is an extremely long term project. Domes would likely be the default for many centuries possibly. But it does still remain a fact that eventually, an errant space rock will hit the Earth.. again. Still, the advancements made in the extremely short time that SpaceX has been in existence, is the most that I have seen over my entire lifetime.
