This will make lots of bbq. This old yard Hickory will probably be tough to split but will fill up some racks.
Decent tree for a yard one. Not a lot of knots. Do you get a lot of hickory? Sell a lot of smoker wood?
I get a decent amount. Another big one was removed from this place last year and another guy took it. I think the splitting difficulty broke him of his desire for more. Occasional sales for smoking wood.
Being a trades person I was admiring it too. I used to fix slate roofs years back. Trade all in itself.
I adore hickory; great firewood for warmth and for smoking meat. I don't get a ton of it but treasure what I do get, usually mockernut and pignut hickory (which looks like what that one is). Nice score. Very high in BTUs as well, I think 27m-28m BTUs per cord, more than most oaks.
It's true, size matters! Plan to burn some this season. What little I have will be prime after 4 years in the stacks.
Awesome tree! Quercus phellos, one of the red oaks. Should put out a nice 24mBTUs per cord in a couple years.
