MMMM Did not know that elm was considered a" NUT "wood species like beech in those instances I have had knotty ash hit me a few times at the splitter lucky the beam was waist height and not groin height so I was not able to classify it as nut wood

Its on hold. Last time I called his GF was sick with flu or something so he didn't want the noise there to bother her. Ill be using the 400 so you know how LOUD it is! He was going to let me know and this was late last week. I may have a couple scores from FBM lined up.
IIRC correctly mine did the same. If I get wood that pops while splitting I'll be mind full to stand sideways. Don't recall ever having been hit in the boys but why chance it.
If I had that nice Stihl one comparable to a 2611 (msa300, I think) I might give it a shot. The one I have is perfect for limbing as I gave it a good run on the small take down I did last week.
Felt like firing up the splitter today so I reattached the return line and kept a screwdriver close to recheck the clamps. Also detailed it after the hydraulic oil soak. Have to admit, I was a bit leary of this falling on me. I picked pieces off carefully. Started with another load of oak for cribbing pieces. Got all the mulberry I could reach. Load of BL, cherry and chestnut oak. Slow and steady wins the race.
I don't recall the details...why it the line popping off all the time? A properly sized barbed fitting with double hose clamps should hold up to/above the return lines max pressure rating...
First time the (original to the splitter) line broke. I cut some off and this time it appears the clamp loosened up. No damage to the line at all. I should have just bought new return line by now but I’ve been slacking. It’s been at my boys place all summer so out of sight out of mind I guess. I’ll get better clamps too.
3 primo trailer loads today. Paused the game at 1/2 time as the drizzle finally let up. Fired up the splitter and fed it Black Locust Mulberry Cherry and Chestnut Oak 3 rows almost complete. I will stack this much higher, creating a peak in the center to shed water/snow/leaves etc.
Broke out the splitter again today. 2 trailer loads before the sky opened up and drenched me. Couple pieces of river birch in there too. Hard to tell but there's a 12" high row of 2 wide splits on top the 3 wide. 3 wide = 2.53 cord, the 12" 2 wide is .33 for a total of 2.86 Serious dent in the pile.
Way to get it done there Jason. Drizzly and wet here most of the day. Soon it'll be time for Well its always time for that should the right score show up.
Lol, can’t have that staging area empty for long. We’re at 7 days straight with rain and 2 more on the way. My grass is about 4-6” long.
