Had a multi-day job to do that took me far from home. I've scrounged wood to and from this location in the past and this trip didn't disappoint. Dead sugar maple that must've died this year and didn't put out leaves. Bark somewhat loose and no rot. Cut the Goldilocks wood. Wasn't touching the huge knotty trunk. Left all the shorties and gnarly pieces. Not a full load as I needed room for stuff from the job and it was an hour plus ride home. I like the fact I work in all different areas as scrounging opportunities abound.
Geez …! 1 whole hour from home, did you pack an overnight bag just in case? You folks from back east don’t stray very far. Just this afternoon I delivered a load of concrete in a mixer truck that was 1hr and 20 minutes from the plant. Nice score though
Nice jag of wood there. Be hard to not return for more. Next time play this in your truck and crank it up as you load: Because there’s always room for one more.
jo191145 called it "small state syndrome". Over an hour away and we complain. Even 15 minutes is far. We rank fourth for population density. Where I'm located any part of the state is and hour ride on the highway for the most part. The widow I work for there has offered to let me stay as she knows how far she is from me. I wouldn't want to do it all the time as the first/last leg of the commute is during rush hour on the interstate. It $%^&$
Good song and album. Never saw them with John Bush as the lead singer. I only have a radio in the truck. Bohemian Rhapsody came on and I was singing at the top of my lungs probably to the amusement of any passing vehicles!
No trailer for me. Hard enough with just a PU and my limited space. How about you Mike...a trailer in your future? Cheaper to buy Truckaa breakfast than buying a trailer huh?
He says no but don't let him fool you , he NEEDS a dump trailer. It doesn't have to be a huge one, but it could be a game changer.
Mike, I was thinking much the same, a trailer for Brad. Even enough to get it home, and then load out to storage.....or direct to customers..... Increasing load and decreasing travel time....even just an hour away....thats why I got mine. 2 people have given me firewood all c/s/s, one guy was 45 minutes out, both were multiple cord. Trailer was a huge blessing. Either way.....nice score Brad. Hope you get more, and it pays your mileage. Sca
More is in the works as I spotted it the same time but a mile from the actual job near the Windham town green. "Luckily" I have to go back to the job as there is some extra work for me and ill have time to cut! After a long hard day I don't feel up to cutting wood, even with room in the truck. Of course my problem is when I cut a load of wood its a heaping load! Special kind of crazy right Dave?
My dump trailer seems like it gets bigger every year. Didn’t use to take nearly as long to fill it up. Thinking I should trade it for a smaller one. If you decide to buy a trailer, my advice is to size it appropriately to your age. lol kind of defeating and humiliating to only have the trailer half full when the old carcass tells you that it has had enough for the day.
Split the load off the truck this morning. Topped off a stack of black birch. The rest to almost finish another stack of mixed hardwood. 75% of the bark came off. I will be out of town again next week and have another spot to cut. Stay tuned.
