IMG_4697.jpeg IMG_4696.jpeg I apologize if this title has been used before. Couldn’t resist. Answered a FB Marketplace ad for free roadside wood. Massive beech tree taken down and all the limb wood had to go. Unfortunately, the beech leaf disease got this one and I confirmed that with some leaves on the ground. got two trailer loads of it today.
One of the pics shows a large round that was actually a limb. Made sure the dogs were out of the way rolling those off the trailer.

Excellent score! What’d they do with the massive part? :saw:
Beech is rare to get, in all my years doing this, my dad has got it once.

Rare indeed. Only other time I’ve cut it was when I had a permit for cutting in state forest. I was told the big trunk was taken away by the tree service. It was a large old wolf tree, massive limbs at eye level. Here’s the ad: IMG_4698.png

Thats a sweet score Steve. Id've been all over that. Beech is one wood I seldom score.
Sad the diseases are killing it off. Good for us hoarders though.

Absolutely, I want to get back there asap. I’m hearing from the better half that I need to split and stack what already in the driveway first. Looks like I need to do that quick. The pressure a wood hoarder finds himself under……

Gotta get while the getting good.

Having seen first hand what you and most other CT hoarders I've met go through I hear ya. If you need me to schmooze the Mrs. just say the word. Always glad to help a fellow hoarder out in any way I can.

Hoard on and cut safe my friend! :tree: :saw:

Seeem to me a big pile by the driveway could keep a person busy all Winter. Win-win for the fairer half.

Looks pretty straight grained. And heavy. lol I tend to shy away from beech but will process one if I don't have to work too hard for it. Great wood, I just don't care for it that much myself.

Overall? Gonna be Oak. Of those my favs are White and Chestnut. I don't mind the longer dry times. No frass. Usually decent to process. Abundance (where i am). Great heat.

I have heated with 100% Beech for the last 9 years. Beech is my favorite firewood by far, I'd take it over any other wood in the Northeast. Season's super fast and has as many BTU's as Oak. A win win in my book.

Thank for the input! I’ve only had a bit in the past I too noticed it dried very fast.
