Win a few, but lose most of them. That's a hard track to win on, it's more like an English track. They only race two weeks out of the year, have high purses, and most of the best jockeys and trainers come because of that. Most races have 12+ horses running and this time a lot of first time starters. I think the track loses money every year on the racing but makes a ton off the casino. I usually box three horses, any order 1-3, for $6 and typically I throw out the "favorite" because you won't make anything anyway. There will be another horse/jockey/trainer I like but remove from my bet and that's usually the one that gets in there. You'll overhear people saying "I got it! I got the exacta!" and dance a jig like a gold prospector...which basically means 99% of the time they picked the two favorites and won $6 on a $2 bet.... I show up expecting to lose but consider a day not at work, outside in nice weather, and smoking cigars worth it.
I'm sure that taggers have had a field day at that water tower. It would take longer to climb up and down than to make that water tower really hilarious.
My town had excitement Thursday evening to yesterday afternoon. Seems a felon awaiting trial in Oklahoma skipped town and made it into my neck of the woods. Crashed his car into a swamp at ELVD (Emerald Lave Village District that is part of the east side of my town). Caused a shelter in place order for that area. Someone caught him on camera where he had stripped down to just shorts (not even shoes) and ran up on their back porch but got scared off by their dog. They had cops going door-to-door, a helicopter up and a dog out but I guess he went into the lake for a while so they lost him. Somewhere that night he evidently found clothes to steal (either someone's clothes line or one of the multiple clothes drop offs). Friday morning he was still at large and they cancelled school for the day (it isn't too far from ELVD as the crow flies). Yesterday afternoon, while I was mowing I heard a helicopter and saw that it appeared to be going west along Main Street. Later, on one of the unofficial town FB pages I saw he had been spotted on the west end of town. AT 2:30 pm, the Local PD had him in custody. (here is the state TV station story). Once he was caught, there was some lighthearted bantering on FB - this one is not wrong Holy cow, that was a lot of excitement in this little town!
58ºF outside, 68ºF inside . Windows all open all night and ten degrees difference. No wind helps a lot with the differential. Great for sleeping. Another month or so and a little chill inside will be less welcome.
Good morning folks. Another beautiful motorcycle ride into school this morning. 4 days of work this week then training in Vegas next week. Have a great day people.
I need some of those doors! Over the years, two times that I can remember people just walked into the house without knocking. Both were "spoken to"..... That stuff doesn't fly with me. In addition, back in the 70's, we heard the door open and in walks a toddler from up the street! Funnier that heck!
