I was camping at our local steam show last weekend and ran into a college buddy from 25 years ago. He married into the family that owns the steam engine that looks like a locomotive. After some catching up, he asked if I’d like to help him out on the engine, of course I jumped at the opportunity. I spent the weekend firing and keeping the boiler fed with water while giving folks rides around the show grounds. I’ve always had a fascination with steam engines so this was a dream come true to me. The engine is called the Pleasant Valley Express and he has a Facebook page for it, if anyone is interested in checking it out. I think he posted videos of the spark show Friday and Saturday night, which was the highlight of my weekend. The engine is homemade on a 40’s REO bus chassis with an Farquhar traction engine boiler. Anyone else interested this sort of thing?

Wes, just wanted to share that vid so everyone could see what you meant by spark show. I was curious so I checked it out, did a screen capture and here it is:

    Didn't think you'd mind.
What did he put in there to throw sparks?

We switched from call to wood about an hour beforehand and as we pulled onto the track I shoved 9 bags of wood shavings into the firebox.
