August has been brutal with heat, humidity and thunderstorms, so I have not been hauling or making firewood. Yesterday I briefly piddled a bit with firewood and was thinking I needed a cash motivator to get rolling again. First call came in today rare for me to sell before Helloween.
This past week was mediocre for sales for me but summer has been pretty strong so far. I tend to get a lot of campers this time of year.
Good deal, Jim. A repeat customer of mine from last season texted me this evening asking how many dry cords I have on hand that I can spare. Looks like I won't even have to advertise this year
It’s 92 and time to deliver this top shelf mix of Hikree, White Oak, Red Oak with a dash of Ash. Perfectly aged for 4 years and the spiders are free.
Thank You, it sometimes pains me to see it leaving, especially the Hickory. The customer was hauling it to his daughter at the outer banks. Ma far wood will be traveling 300 miles to where thar ain’t no firewood. They might have $50 bundles at the grocery store out there for the fancy beach house folks. Hey that guy is going out there to turn his load into $5000 on a long holiday weekend.
I unloaded directly into the bed of his F150 and noticed how immaculate the bed was. After tossing a few pieces I thought about how he would freak if there is a ding in his perfect unused bed, so I stacked until I could toss onto a bed of wood. He’s going to have to wash it after it’s unloaded. I mean showroom perfect.
I had a CL listing out for about a month. Nothing for two weeks, then 4 customers appeared out of the ether within a two week span.
Just seeing this thread. Nice load Jim. Id be stacking into that truck too. Havent seem the bed of my truck since last year! Just got a call from a regular today. Second regular of the season. Between bundles and cordage I'm already halfway to my total Summer tally nine days into September. I'm loving the empty racks as I have new inventory to hoard.
Nice not having to advertise. CL/FBM is like that. My FBM ads were slow all Summer and near the end I had a few sales. Nothing gangbusters but moving inventory. You thinking of slowly expanding your customer base?
Over the next few years, yes. Not this upcoming season though. I'll need to get more inventory drying before branching out. For now, I'm just a "backup guy" of sorts in my area.
