I need to add a catch table to my splitter. Looks like most, if not all, require me to drill through the beam. I'm sure those work fine but I'd rather not go punching holes in things if I don't need to. Any others out there that don't require drilling the beam or is there a certain catcher that works better than others? Splitter is an MTD.

You don't have many options with that style beam...it's either weld on or bolt on...I'd go bolt on personally...a 1/2" hole or two in the web will not compromise the beam, that's why OEM usually attaches them that way.
The only other option I can think of would be something that clamps/bolts together onto the lower flange...just need to make sure it doesn't interfere if you go vertical (should be easy to work around that though)

I was just making sure there's not a better option out there that I just haven't found yet before I order one and start drilling holes.

Look at channel (Uni) strut- should be some beam clamping components and of course a few precut channel lengths to serve as a sold foundation. Yes, you’d be cobbling it together somewhat but that should keep it on the cheap.

I would be more worried about how am I going to attach the table to the beam at the log stop end. Can't have it interfere with the wedge slide which wraps around the flange. I would not hesitate to drill the flange like brenndatomu says. Welding would impact beam strength far more than a hole or two. A weld on the log stop foot would not be a problem.

Generally both ends of the log catchers attach to the web...but like I said, I'm sure you could fab up some clamp/bolt together arrangement onto the lower flange...or there's always gorilla glue  ;) :wacky:

Grab the county line table and drill a couple holes in the web. You will wonder why you didn’t do it sooner!

That's nearly the same mtd that I have, except mine is a half beam design and a Tecumseh vertical engine. Otherwise 20 ton vertical/ horizontal mtd with a vertical shaft engine.

I still want to swap mine to a walt style trailer splitter with a log lift but for now I'm waiting on that Tecumseh imploding and swapping it to a horizontal predator/ chonda swap. The 5 HP Tecumseh really struggles on gnarlier honey locust

A couple small holes in the web won't hurt anything, the important part is having a support pieces that rest on the lower part of the beam for support.

A convenient thing to do is place two rounds on top of each other near the splitter and you have a ready made table too.

Or have a table like this:

Thanks for all the info. I'm not against drilling that because I know a lot mount that way. Just like to see all the options.

I set my Work Mate table next to the splitter. It works for me.

I too put a County Line on my Huskee, and wished I’d have done it years ago.

So if the table was mounted on the main beam, it rotates with the cylinder when using it Denny style ( vertical)? It looks to be out of the way regardless when using vertically.

If you split vertically on the regular, no need to bother with a catch. But yes, rigid mount to the beam it stays put no matter the orientation.

    YTL-015-431 Log Catcher, Small
    $51 each on Amazon
Stupid Amazon links don't work here for me...

Edit: Here, this is a "clip on" like I was talking about earlier...cheaper too because its $77 and does both sides! But, keep in mind that this is a cradle, and not a full blown "rack", or log catcher like the first one...I've used this type and they are not as nice as the larger ones (IMO)
