I’ve noticed something in my area a few times over the past couple years. Evidence of people dragging logs or a tree down the road. Occasionally I’ll notice a drag mark in the road, and upon further inspection, recognize wood is what is being dragged. Once, I followed it from a guys yard down the road from me to another house about a mile away. I had noticed the cherry tree down in his yard the week before, and therefore put two and two together. Talk about a wrecking ball! Don’t think I would try it! Have any of you noticed any similar shenanigans in your area?
I've done that several times over the years on back country dirt/gravel forest service roads but not on paved roads. Usually it's due to needing to move a dead/down tree that is on a bad slope or on a curve in the road. I'll drag the tree down the road to a spot with a pull off to process it in a safer location. Yes, the wood gets a bit dirtier, but sharpening a chain is better than getting nailed by some city-slicker speeding down the road so they can find 'peace and quiet' in the woods. Dragging the trees does leave a minor 'snail trail' in the road that probably leaves most people scratching their head as to what happened.

Dropped this one onto the road, then pulled it up out of the ditch. Good wood, but also a good way to dull a chain.

I've done that quite often, usually no more than half a mile. If I have to mess with it, it's coming back with me one way or another. The fun part is 99% of the time they fall over, it's on this hill on my road. So dragging them back they're sliding into the other lane going around curves.
Dave, it seems I remember you were here back in one of the early GTG here. If so you should remember a few trees being dragged down the road from Ron and Rose's place to our place. Ron even got stuck with one big one and we had to cut part of it off to finish the job. I also remember more than once way back in my logging days when we'd drag logs down a road. These roads I write about were all gravel or sand roads and very little traffic.
My local Hillbillies do this all the time. Easy to determine where the tree came from and end up. Guessing they don't want to buck up the tree and haul the rounds to their vehicle. Easier to drag it into the front yard and then let it lay for years while they procrastinate about what to do with it. I'll take pictures the next time I see a "snail trail."
Yeah I guess I do recall that it happened...I don't think I was there to see it in person at that moment though.
