No, this is not another one of my dad jokes! My "new to me" Dewalt 20 volt battery saw. Been going back and forth on getting one for years since I have a bunch of their tools and batteries. This one popped up for sale yesterday. Asked for his best price and at $80 I accepted. We met up halfway this morning. Ill use it here at home and storage as I sometimes get skinnies and don't want the noise of a gas saw. Handy for a quick small cut. Anyone else own/use one? Not looking/expecting to buck bigger logs with it. Another toy for the arsenal.
I've been thinking about doing the same. I currently use the Stihl 192 to trim down some of the "what was I thinking when I cut this" length stuff in the wood yard.
I've done the same thing with a Stihl msa 120c. I use it to trim up those long pieces when putting them in the stacks. It comes in real handy when trimming the long stuff, off the trailer and onto the wood stack.
I’ve been wanting one too. After using my 20v Dewalt pole saw a good bit, I’m impressed with how much it can cut per battery charge. You may have motivated me to look a little harder for one Brad.
LOL!!! I have the same pole saw. Don't use it often but handy thing for sure. Don't think I've ever sharpened it in the 4+ years I've owned it. Fairly common on FBM around here. I just finally said the heck with it and bought it. Are you getting yours ported?
I've wanted a little electric saw for brush clearing and trail maintenance for a long time, but haven't taken action. I'm married to Makita, but I'd be curious to hear your longer term review of the Dewalt.
Haha, maybe I'll solder in larger lead wires. That should be good for something?? I have yet to sharpen mine too. It's still cutting great so no need.
My wife has smaller Stihl that’s similar. It’s really handy for cutting up branches and small rounds.
For $80, it’s worth a try, and you have the batteries already. I have the same saw, and like you mentioned, I use it around the house more than anything. You’ll want some of the 4 or 6 amp batteries as it’ll eat through the smaller ones pretty quickly. Congrats!
I have an 8, two 6, two 5, and a few of the lower amp ones. I may give it a good tryout this week at storage. Have some small to medium sized logs to buck. I have a fast charger too. Keep it plugged in in the PU usually with a battery charging while I'm driving.
Gave it a trial run yesterday at storage. Well its definitely NOT a replacement for a gas saw. RPM's are slow so it doesnt bite and you have to kinda push it. I did sharpen it up. Safety chain and no dawgs doesn't help either. The thing that surprised me was the fact it didn't bog when I pushed down on it which I did fairly hard. Bucked a couple medium mulberry rounds plus several sectioned red maple chunks. Did a small pruning job with it as well.
I got a Ryobi 14" 40v basically for free a year or two ago because it cost $20 more than just another 40v battery for my blower. The wife loves it. It works good in stuff 12" and under except for hickory and white oak.
A couple years ago our city arborists switched over to electric (Stihl) for their top handles, and they haven't gone back. They do a ton of trimming from bucket trucks. For the bigger stuff, they still definitely have some big gas Stihls on the truck.
