It's been almost 10 years since the install, it's like a member of the family!! It's been an amazing appliance, saved me many thousands and thousands of dollars in heating bills!!

Same here. I estimate $2000 a year. (Compared to my oil furnace)

I'd really like to put a wood stove in the church parsonage. The Jan electric bill was 655$

    Yes. Sucks.

I put a mini split in the living room/ kitchen/dining room and situated it so it blows back the hallway. It works good for a/c and when its mild but in this cold they still hafta run the baseboard electric. I think Pastor's wife likes it a bit warmer because of her RA. A woodstove would help her also.

    This thread - WOW!
Scotty Overkill's killer skills - amazing.

I really got my eyes opened to the Zero Clearance Fireplace possibilities here - thank you. It seems like such a good option, kind of at the crossroad between a big black box that really heats and a fireplace which is beautiful but sucks air. I would like to learn more about them, but they don't seem used much. Price maybe?

Here is a link to the Napoleon line of fireplaces.... (I never knew about these).

And I finally found that durned wolf!

I was headed out the door this AM and looked up at the chimney, the sun was hitting the chiney just right to show all the stones and the detail. Took a pic and resurrected this thread.... Hard to believe this setup is going on 13 years old. Still looks great and is an amazing heater for our house!

Yes indeed it was a ton of work. It's all natural veneer also, so it's damm heavy too. I'm juat glad it's holding up good.

I'm stone veneering my back foundation now, I really love doing it.

I have to admit I didn't love it , it was a job, But the oversized cake decorator bag that we used was the easier part, It is rewarding every once in a while I drive by a couple of jobs we did in the past. All the Ceramic tile ,slate , swimming pools , all that we did you can't really go by and check it out but the chimneys they stand proud

Yes bagging the grout in can be easier but you've gotta make the cement wetter. I've also "snowballed" the grout in different circumstances you can make the cement less wet, thus workable into the finished product much faster.

I did some rock veneering back in my days on the job… used a giant stainless “caulk gun” that applied the mortar with pinpoint precision, which in and of itself was great, but it had to be reloaded quite often due to the space between stones. It was fun then since it was a change of pace from slinging nail guns/framing but I’m fine to just remember and reminisce on those times now…
