A coworker friend found this old chain in his garage and gave it to me. It’s a 0.375 x 0.058 x 72DL (20”) which I happen to have a couple bars for. Most of my bars/chains are 0.050” gauge otherwise. Anyway, on one tooth the raker got sheared clear off. To rectify the issue my options are: A) grind the rest of the tooth off and run it B) patch in a couple drive links that are 0.050” gauge and run it C) sharpen the tooth without a raker at all and see what happens What would the experts here do?
x3 , grind it off and run it. Willing to bet you don't notice a difference. They sell them with half the cutters so just consider it a hybrid.
Grind off all the rakers, sharpen, put it on your 029 and hold on for dear life! A. I would grind off the tooth. If the chain still cuts funky its trash. I don't recall if I've ever lost a raker. Lost plenty of teeth when they get to nub size.
Thanks for the input y'all. Prior to checking out the forum this morning I did end up patching in a fresh tooth with two 0.050” drive links. Being a freebee I figure this will be used as a junk work chain anyway. With only 2 links being 0.008” narrower I don’t think it will make much difference. For what it’s worth IIRC one of my 0.063 x 0.325 chains is missing a tooth and it doesn’t track weird or act noticeably different.
