We sorted a trailer load of oak Saturday, taking the skinnies to a shed to be cut and the splitter size logs in this pile. Started my 7AM-7PM shift Monday, so it's time for the work lights. Worked about an hour, got about 1/2 the pile bucked... We split and stacked that pile, made a full tote and part of another. Took an hour. Then we brought out the saws and bucked more for Wednesday night. Took 1 tank of gas in the XS4910, had 2 logs left... More fun tonight
Bucked the last 2 logs Wednesday night, split until about 10:30PM. Finished the tote from Tuesday and another full one. Probably have 6-7 rounds left. Planning on 4 more totes of 14" splits.
We got into so more "purrfect" red oak. Awesome quality splits... More 14" splits We also processed some local wild grown free range water oak... Finished the last row of 14" splits, 10 totes total
Haven't posted on this thread in awhile, so thought I would add these pictures here..might them on the other threads, just for deja vu.... Wednesday we went to a good friend's place, we trim up the thick grass on the ditches and he asked about dropping 3 pines... 2 dead ones Then a green one It went a little bit right and hung up... Did a few undercuts On the ground safe... After we left there, we cut another yard, she had a big pecan limb down. Trimmed it up and split it Thursday... Also finished another tote of chunks, oak, cherry and pecan... Thursday afternoon after our son got work, we cut a few more trees on the powerline project... A few small oaks that had to be pushed at least 90° from the direction of lean... And this nice cherry... Got 52' of logs from it. Hope to process it tonight
Nice work Jeff despite the hang up. That felling position would kill my back and mebbe rip my britches too. I must say the hi-visibility shirt looks sharp on you. We need some with the FHC logo on them.
I sure didn't want to kneel down in that pine straw, you haven't had fun until you get chiggers in some tender areas...... It didn't take that XS4910 long to drop those pines... It would be nice to have some shirts made like that.
We try to get a little done. It was dry in May-June, but we've had a wet July. Rain nearly every day sometime since the 4th. And tropical storm headed this way now. We still have all the sheds empty......trying to do more totes.
Early forecasts don’t show the storm making it here in upstate SC but it’s entirely possible. Wouldn’t mind some more rainfall to help raise the pond level and replenish the aquifers. Hopefully you don’t get the high winds!
It’s been very dry here all season. Finally got measurable rainfall yesterday & last evening. Today the ground is still rock hard. Send some of that moisture up north, but keep those high temps please and thanks.
Did a little more work Monday morning before TS Debby's rain started. Had Blue Samson a nice pile of goldilocks oak cut from the campground... I like having it hooked to the Honda, fill a tote or 2, move it and start again... Got 2 totes full, with a bit left over for the 3rd tote. We cut an 18" round from this high stump... We cut that big stump from the tree at the house, got 2 rounds from it... About this size... Made this much wood, split it with the County Line 30 ton And a few uglies Saved a piece with a bit of curly grain... Between the left over splits and the 2 big rounds, got almost half the third tote done... Temps weren't bad, but I still leaked all over...lol...
Kudos for working in the heat. My humidity radar is pinging seeing how the cotton shirts are wearing.
Thanks, my friend. It was maybe 82°, but humidity was 86% or so. Just before TS Debby moved in at noon. I haven't worn a cotton shirt since spring...lol...that's an air dry type shirt...
Since it was raining this morning, did a little saw maintenance on the XS362. Sharpened the chain, the got a break from the rain. Took it to that big chunk Trimmed off the butt swells all the way around, so it would fit on the County Line splitter. Split a bit over half of it, the shorter side, stacked it on the grapple... We'll probably put this in our shed, since the sizes vary... I think most of what's left will make 18" splits Then the rain started again..
We deal with some pretty high humidity regularly here, so I am sympathetic. This is what caught my radar (though could just be sweated through). I don't really wear cotton shirts anymore, but used to. It gets 'heavy' in the humidity even if it's not 'wet'. Once wet, never dries it seems. The new light and quick dry fabric shirts and drawers were a game changer for me. Don't think I could go back. A buddy turned me onto some lightweight pants from Deluth that I curse him for because they are not cheap. Check out their Dry on the Fly stuff if you ever want some pants that are like the shirts.
