Looks like evidence for global warming, too.

Well I guess I have spent a lot of extra time moving and re-stacking for little benefit if the BTUs are being degraded. But what do I care if the Benjamin’s keep pouring in?

Bought a face cord of cherry early this morning and got it all re-spilt and stacked. Loaded a face cord of white oak and one of hickory for tomorrow’s deliveries. My repeat hickory customer is a manager at JD in Lynchburg. He is paying me with single barrel select whiskey. We meet up when I am delivering south of Nashville which saves me diesel and driving time.

Just now finished. Wood is stacked on double pallets. Air control is at the top. The panels are 5’6” tall and the whole thing is 40 feet long. It took some time to get done and the whole time I was thinking this is a lot for an experiment.

I have some things going against me here. In a month it will be mid September with cooler temps. The wood stack is fairly tight. Wish me luck!

Looking forward to your results. In general, when a person takes initiative more often than not the outcome is positive.

That looks really nice! I hope it works out for you. Get ahead and stay ahead has worked for me and I’ve made a few bennies along the way.

I finished this around noon yesterday. Outside temp was 80 and around 3PM it was 100 degrees in the kiln. So, it seems promising. I am away from the house for a few days but look foward to monitoring and tweaking. This is fresh cut live ash. I am not going to weigh wood or monitor progress. Late September or early October I will pull out some wood then split and check with a moisture meter. If it is not dry I will get dry wood and use this stuff for next year. If it is dry I will get it into the woodshed near the house and get another load of green for next year. I am really still on the fence about whether time and expense this was worth it. I plan to use these 4-6 weeks at a time and will store them under cover so so hopefully they won’t weather too bad.

So the bottom is open, and air control flaps at the top?
