Was leaving my boss’s house after picking up my check today and saw this pile on side of the road a picked through all the basswood and found this sour cherry or Atleast that’s what the id on the leaves said. Lately the power company has been clearing the lines all around my bosses house so the last few days I’ve been driving around there and grabbing what I can. So far I got a tiny bit of ash and mostly maple and there’s sooooo much basswood available that I had to Pick through in every pile. But here’s the “sour cherry” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nice grab The rough bark looks like black cherry to me but I'm not familiar with the sour variety, so it could be. Cherry for sure either way.
Id be grabbing it all myself. As Eric stated that looks like the black cherry common around here. I cant say I've ever heard of sour cherry either. Any market in your area for basswood blocks/rounds? Very popular with carvers.
I have no idea if there any interest around here but I have heard of that. I’m sure it probably is just black cherry but that’s what the picture id of the leaves said so I have no idea
Yes sir since I’ve started hoarding I been loving using my own cherry wood also got 2 and half cords of apple seasoning I can’t wait to try. Just made some cherry smoked venison jerky like 2-3 weeks ago.
I'd grab some of the Basswood if I were you. I tried it this year for the first time. Easy splitting, dries quick and like someone said great kindling and campfire wood.
Good shoulder season wood as well. The only negative I have found is it leaves a lot of ashes. I would take it if available.
