Just rain fall. These logs are on their third year so I’m thinking they are going to taper off in production. We are so busy right now I’m hoping they fruit later rather than sooner.

Your logs should be starting later this year right?

Hopefully this fall. I have not seen any obvious signs of mycelium spreading yet but it has been mostly very cool here so far. I keep watering. We will see.

Had some rain earlier in the week. I’ll keep wetting the logs, I should have a good amount of mushrooms to harvest. It looks like there is a lot of pent up growth. IMG_2294.jpeg

Pretty cool how much they grow. It supposed to rain tomorrow I need more rainwater to collect for watering the mushrooms.

they’re on the dry side but I’m almost out of rain water to put on them. I have a pond but the my fear is the water would make them taste bad. 80% chance of rain tomorrow morning.

Picked a little early but no chance for birds or slugs to get at them. Decent haul.

I'm very jealous! My logs are just showing signs of growth. It has only been 5 months since they were inoculated. The mushroom kit says 9-12 months to fruit. It had been cool for a long while then several weeks back we had some extremely hot weather and I started to water twice a day. I now have bumpy brownish lumps on the surface of many of the dowels. Things are beginning to move along but I think I will be pressed to have any kind of harvest this fall due to my late start. Keep watering twice a day and hope for the best I guess!

I think you’ll be surprised. I don’t do any maintenance watering of mine. They get dry if there’s no rain. I’m rootin for you.

I just sliced what I harvested and filled up the dehydrator. I’ll let it run overnight outside on the covered porch. They stink up the house if I run the dehydrator in the house. I’ll turn it off in the morning and jar or bag the mushrooms after work.

I am going to force these logs to fruit. They haven’t produced much so I’m not asking them I’m telling. It’s supposed to be a Rainey weekend, I wouldn’t be surprised is the rest of the logs produce this weekend IMG_2455.jpeg

Sometimes they need a little coaxing...if you were trying to save the wood, it would be covered in 'shrooms

It didn’t rain here and I’m almost out of rainwater in the trough. I’m going to need to get water from somewhere. Pond is too nasty to use and would probably make the mushrooms inedible taste wise.

    Looking way better.

The house used to be on cistern water from off the roof. Over 1000 gallons of rain water. I really should rig up a pump to use for around the house.

    More water for later.

I’m going to have to dehydrate a lot of these. My go to now is to chop them up and cook them with a dozen eggs. Eggs, cheese and pepper eggs with shiitake mushrooms is awesome.

The sky has let loose and we are going to have 3 more days of rain. I’ll keep checking back. I grabbed the ones that were ready.
