Thanks! I spent summers in my teens mending fences and dealing with a 3 point mounted auger. The downforce on the mini, reversible flow, and heat/ac cab is the icing on the cake. It will also be used to dig 450 2’ deep holes for orchard trees this summer. I’m planning on prepping the holes by augering them, adding fertilizer, and refilling them with good loam as needed before the trees show up. It having loose good soils should help with the actual tree planting in the fall.
Spent half the day yesterday helping our arborist fell 9 poplar trees that were leaning and dying. There is an apple tree behind and to the left of the mini excavator that we are trying to keep safe. It’s a Hurlbut apple tree and planted before 1850 according to the apple guru up here. I used the KX-040 to pull them in a safe direction, and didn’t get any photos. I pulled the main trunks out and lined them up, and piled brush less than 6” dia. Today spent part of the day cutting up the trunks to 8’ logs and pulling the remaining trunks out of the woods and cutting them up. Cutting between thunder storms made it fun as well. Got it all cleaned up and ready to chip and lug off logs to the wood yard .
I should mention that most of the 9 trees gave me 7-8 8’ logs and the a couple smaller logs that were 6” dia or less. Not that I needed a lot of poplar firewood, but it will get used. Tomorrow’s task is cleaning up the field pine tree that was severely damaged during the storm in April. Our arborist climbed it and had it safely on the ground in about an hour. What a mess!!
You are doing a killer job and you got a lot done I don’t know how old you are but you never wanted to climb and cut down trees
Thanks, I’m 44 and still work from sun up to sun down most days. Spent some summers in college doing masonry restoration work, so I’ve hung off the side of a 10 story building on swing staging, and been 90’ up in a man lift. I don’t mind climbing trees and cutting them down, but storm damaged field pines are not high on my list to climb. There were also several apple trees and sugar maples in the fall zone, so I left it to the arborist. If I crushed an apple tree felling it I would never hear the end of it from my wife. If the arborist crushed the apple tree, it was an accident, and such is life.
Had a rain shower Sunday night, so decided to let the 'Bota be a tractor instead of a skidder for a day. Got 4 of our food plots harrowed, killing weeds before they get to tall. Also pushed some vines back from the edges. Looked down after the second pass and found this old buck. Don't know how he got in that thicket. Sure wish we could have seen him standing. 17 1/2 inside, 19 1/4 outside
Did some brush hogging on the last food plot this morning...some.of the sweet gum trees were over 6' tall. Left.a couple planted oaks and volunteer persimmon trees...
Hauled the mini ex to my in-laws place to pull up 11 spruce stumps from storm damage this winter. The row of spruce trees in the picture use to continue where the stumps were. Also cut down the dead spruce tree with his 540I XP saw, Smoothed up the area to become lawn again, and called it a day. My father in-law hauled off most of the stumps and roots with our old 1025R TLB. He will rake it with the 1025R and then seed it.
Figured out how to stop my bx from going in reverse lol. What are the odds ! Was harder to remove that stick than you could imagine. Back to work !
