Maybe I am outside the normal, but I don’t pay for anything my chainsaws cut, my back lifts, or my diesel truck hauls. I can purchase cut and split premium firewood from my local logger for a fraction of what it takes me to cut it for free on my timber property.

Am I reading this post wrong? You "don't pay for anything......" But then you "purchase it from my local logger...."

No cutting? No lifting? No hauling involved?

    :loco:

I am pretty sure what eoddiver is saying is he doesn’t pay for wood that he has to cut down and haul away
He is also saying if he wants wood he can buy it already cut and too his liking
Me personally would never pay for something I had to cut down haul away and then slab

I stand corrected! :emb: I did offer $50 for a HVBW mill log last year. The guy thought is more highly valuable than I did. :picard:

Yes, I purchase large split firewood that I load, unload and split down smaller. I can purchase three loads a day vice spending most of the day cutting and carrying the rounds out of the woods on my property. And I don't have to use and abuse my chainsaw or truck and perform maintenance afterwards. My point is that paying someone to cut down their tree, de-limb, and haul off the rounds is not a very profitable way to make money selling firewood. For someone not in my unique position, you have to do whatever it takes to source your firewood. With tips, I bag close to $300 a face cord. So I can clear around $700 a day after paying for my firewood vice $300 cutting it. I am not much of a financial guy, but the path to profits seems clear to me.

More than likely. A location I'd never be in. Guy called asking for chimney work and the place was beyond a dump so I knew as soon as I pulled in the work wasn't for me and later the HWBW wasn't either.

My logger source produces extremely high quality trunk firewood (no limb wood) that he sorts into large concrete barriers. Crotchety stuff doesn't get fed into his processor, so always straight easy to re-split pieces. So I can purchase all cherry, hickory or white oak. I also hand load it so there is no debris or gnarly pieces that go into my truck. Takes about :30 to load it neat and tight and about a six minute drive away.
