I put a sidewalk made of pavers in going to my front porch about a month ago. I still need to put some edger blocks in perpendicular to the sidewalk to keep the mulch out of the gravel. My knees needed a break so I’m going to do that in the next few weeks.

There seem to be two schools of thought on keeping edge pieces or pavers in place that are exposed on one side. One is to use plastic paver edge that you fasten to the ground. The other is using a grout or cement. Anybody have an experience with either, or are in the business and can recommend one over the other ?

The plastic edger is easier and cleaner
To cement would take away from the clean look you have going on right now

I'm leaning towards the plastic edger just for that reason. I'm pretty sure when it's all done you won't even know it's there unless you look real close.

Thank you. My second time doing any paver work and I think it came out pretty good. Have a few low bricks but I guess it give it some character.

    Looking good!
I'd lean plastic...with the freeze/thaw cycles we get in Ohio, the mortar would only hold for so long IMO

Good point, the mortar would probably turn into gravel after a few winters.

Plastic edging it is. Thanks for the input everyone.

I wonder if a good grade of outdoor construction adhesive would work. I see they are using it for planter retaining blocks even for rocks around fire pits now. A very small bead on the mating surface that stops below the top would hold well, leave no appreciable gap and not be visible. Might be something to check out!

I don’t believe caulk will last you figure he is going to use it on a walk way that sits in the sun we all know how hot bricks/concrete gets in the sun plus the pavers are going to move with the seasons
