Haven't posted here in a while, been trying to process some of what we had. Had a friend wanting to thin his woods a bit. Got a few loads of nice red oak from him... Another load Another friend let's us cut hickory on his place when we need it...got 1 load so far this year... Got a post oak from a neighbor, got the trunk and one big limb, left the rest for his firepit.
Customer called, "You remember that big white Oak you took down for us last year? I can't handle all the wood come get it please" OK, so now I have 1 1/4 dump trailer loads of some huge oak rounds, bone dry (they sat next to the burn pile we left and got baked, suuuper dry wood now) had to cut them a little thin just so my mini skid could move them, so some are like 10" thick instead of 16" but im fine with that, I estimated about 9000 pounds in the load pictured, too bad my splitter gave up the ghost last year and they can't warranty it, gonna have to hand split all this I think, or rent a splitter for a weekend and split all the wood at my house
That's a nice load of big rounds...bunch of BTU's right there. I think I would rent a splitter and move them with the mini.. Looks like some we had...
yeah I think I might rent one for a week/end, the packing came off the cylinder on mine and when I went to warranty it they said "its covered but they stopped making them because they all did that, we will let you know when we can get parts in" I think Im going to take the whole thing back and get my money back for it, might go buy a northstar or something maybe a little nicer than the powerpro I have now
yup, the ole dodge squats a lot, I pull almost 15K pounds behind it with well over 1500 pounds of tongue weight every day and it takes it just fine, although once I get around to registering the new truck I won't be overloading the dodge as much anymore which will be nice
Nice load of wood! If the bark is falling off and the wood is still good. that's the best. I take the limb wood too.
Thanks. With 2 people and the weight of my wooden high sides, that was probably about as much weight as I want to carry very far with the truck. Plus there was a crate of dumbells buried in it
Nice scrounge score that hasn't happened in a long time. Was tooling along a back dirt road a couple days ago (on public land) and came across an ash that had come down across the road during the winter and been cut up by someone. No sawdust anywhere so I'm betting it was cut and cleared by the snowmobile club months ago to keep the trail open. The rounds were just pushed off into the woods and there for the taking. Went back this morning with a ramp and got five, got home and realized I had forgotten my peavey, so went back and grabbed a few more while I was at it. Good sized rounds but easy enough to roll up the ramp. Nice when five rounds almost fills the bed of the truck. Perfect morning for it too as it felt like an early fall day with a temp of 46 and no humidity.
Dismantling my red oak deer blind taking the wood to a friends house. I could never get the deer near this in the season. They would come right across it before and after but never saw one while posted up in there. Being in the vicinity of the horses didn’t help I believe they were selling me out. I have some premo hickory and red oak to cover with the sheet metal anyways. It’s not a good use of the metal if I’m not getting any shots at deer and it can cover a whooooole lot more cord wood ranked and stowed tightly.
