Did some hand splitting today. These are the rounds I cut last fall on our neighbor’s property that they had logged awhile back. There’s actually still some wood I need to cut and bring back. All in time. Here’s what I have left to split on the back side of these stacks (all wood from my neighbor). Here are some pine rounds that still need to be split. These were from a tree that fell between our property with another neighbor in March 2023; they didn’t want the wood. More pine and some random hardwood rounds: Some hemlock from a tree that fell on our land this past fall: RR: Random Rounds I need to split; hardwood: Some leftovers from the stack we pulled from this past winter: And full circle; here are the stacks with all the wood our neighbors gave to us. Planning on pulling from the closest one this winter. I do enjoy hand splitting! But with a lot of those larger rounds; especially the softwoods, I think I’ll grab a splitter to assist and just get that done all at once. My neighbor has one he’s told me multiple times I can borrow.
Way to get it done Glenn! Whaddaya thinking cord wise? How much do you burn in an average Winter? Wasnt actually a bad day here. Warm sun with no humidity.
Thanks Brad! I’d say 3-4 cords? It’s hard to tell with all those unsplit rounds. We usually go through about a cord a winter. I plan on rotating in some pine this season given how much is on hand. Great weather up north as well! I could deal with summer if it was like this.
X2 Another nice day on tap here. Not looking forward to humid weather that's for sure. Usually the big AC has been brought up and installed and the skylights in the family room have been covered. It's like a greenhouse if they're not.
Yeah...It's harder to breathe and stay cool. Being sticky and swarmed by bugs dowsn't make it pleasant either.
With dad passing and just not into it the past few years stacks are not what they should be. Processed all this last year and this spring so getting caught back up. There is also several cords of split plus several more rounds ready to split at Bunny's place but no pictures of that. Going to be working on it in the heat as I'm now on medical leave with lifting restrictions for a few more weeks.
Swealtering humidity here in southern PA. I could only take about 1.5 hours of splitting before I threw in the towel. Sorry to hear of your loss. Slow and steady wins the race to recovery.
Thanks all. Doing fine and I think I'm close to the 3 year plan again. Loosing dad does stink, but he lived a good long life and tought us kids right. Old age like his knees just did not agree with his active lifestyle. Always nice seeing other members stacks so keep it up.
