Lilacs and our very nice Hostas that we dug up some cut off roots from the other side of the house and transplanted, 2 varieties here .
This entire property up until recently was the western Connecticut DEEP headquarters (Department of energy and environmental protection). It was a private residence prior to that. Yellow roses are popping open, as are the rhododendron flowers in the distance. Siberian irises are opening. An early daylilly is blooming. That gets divided this fall. And the mock orange sweet flowers are opening.
Gnus Flash Iris. It was a surprise when I saw it in the roadside garden - I have no memory of planting it, but must have done so last year. I didn't even document the label as I usually do - LOL American Goldfinch baptisia followed me home from the local garden center yesterday. I had no plans on where I would put it, but realized it will go well with the orange azaleas once it gets bigger.
A humble native mapleleaf viburnum in bloom. I collected a bunch of berries back in the fall from various places and tossed them along the edges of my yard. I hope to have a bunch of these growing eventually.
MikeInMa Mom was given a beautiful pink rhodo on her 50th birthday by her parents. Over the years, a couple of shoots came up from the rootstock the pink one was grafted to. Now she has a two colour rhodo which bloom at different times. It also has taken over the garden because Mom wasn't into pruning anything back. Yours is almost the colour of the original root stock shoot of her rhodo.
That rhododendron was there when we moved in in 1982. I don't prune it at all. It's 10-11 feet tall. Mother Nature prunes it now and then when some branches just die off. I do scatter some HollyTone, by the handful all through it, every other year, or so.
We are focusing on getting the veggies in this weekend, we should be safe with the temps, Remember that last year on May 27th if IRC, we had the hard freeze that froze tree leaves when it dropped to 22 degrees overnight.
Our Rhododendron has taken a beating the last couple winters but she is still kicking. The bumblebees are buzzing around it. I think I might have to cut it back some to get rid of some damage.
Roses are happy. Dusty Miller is blooming. Cone flowers just starting to show color. Hydrangea is nearing bloom.
Rose Champion aka Dusty Miller? We got this from my mother and that’s what she called it. My app also ID’s it as an aka DM. I’ll have to see if I can remember rose champion from now on.
