We had a twin stem oak between the carport and house, that would eventually become a huge problem. One side hung over carport, the other over the edge of the house. 20240525_084253.jpg

Only had one hiccup/accident...this top was notched, it leaned back, then broke loose as we were pulling it. Fell on top of me, glad I had my helmet on, got some bruises on my stomach where I hit the top bar...a bit sore today... 30403.jpeg

Scary about the accident but as stated it could've been worse.

Nice to have friends in high places. Sometimes, when felling I fantasize about having the option of sending it straight up.

    That’s a military haircut. :)
Glad you didn’t get too beat up too bad.
Not to be a downer but a local tree guy we used when needed had a big chunk hit his basket. Catapulted him right out. They say he broke nearly every bone in his body. Took him a couple years of healing and physical therapy before he went back to work. Sadly he took his own life three years ago. His wife said he lived in so much pain he could no longer bear it.
I worked in hi lifts on occasion in the masonry trade. Always griped about the harnesses required. I’d want one today if I was going up. Stay safe out there folks.

Yup, after watching some safety "fail" videos on manlift safety, and hearing a coworker tell about being tied in saving him when a sling broke holding a 2k lb motor, you not gonna catch me in a lift without proper harness/ tied off!

Huh this sounds remarkably similar to a comment I already made in one of these threads. It apparently fell upon deaf ears:picard:

Nice work! That ported 4910 sure would make a great saw for that type of use.

Glad the damage was minimal, and that you're healing well.

    That was a big tree

Well, our son and his best friend came over today. We got all the wood and limb piles cleaned up... 20240527_150836.jpg 20240527_150709.jpg
And the stump cut off... 20240527_135502.jpg 20240527_140420.jpg That was all the Kubota wanted, did a 3 wheeler as I started down the hill. Glad I had it close to the ground 20240527_140640.jpg Maybe our arborist friends on here can tell if it needed to be cut...

No sir, it didn't fall on deaf ears. I didn't know if the guy was coming Saturday morning until late Friday night. Couldn't get a harness from work.
I'll get a harness or rope next time.

The buttress looks healthy but it’s all about your level of risk tolerance. There were plenty of large narrowly attached limbs in that tree and targets close by.
