That's too scary. I'm glad Emma is ok. I've really enjoyed following her adventures. I thank you for sharing them with the FHC family.
Wolves are a challenge. There is a group who has been trying go reintroduce wolves back into the Maine woods. There are huge objections. I think there are instances of gray wolves here, but rare. We didn't have coyotes for a long time, but now they are common even in residential areas. Not a good mix.

SM, I don't want to get off track on this thread but how do we balance nature with our way of life as humans?, and I'll give an example… Down here in the Southern tip of NJ, we "USED" to have coyotes and as a kid in the 60's and 70's we used to here them howl etc…and we knew they were there, It didn't bother folks. "THEN" came the housing boom here mid 70's, the yuppies were "FREAKING" about coyotes and they were killed off. "Now" they have slowly started making a come back, about 2 years ago an older lady who's house backs a small patch of woods had her small Yorkie eaten, Now we have all out war on them again! I know coyotes can be and are a nuisance but they were here first and we are incroching on their habitat. I can't speak about wolves, they are not here, but most animals were hunted off so man could live in a specific area. My question is, whats the solution so all can be at peace?

Well, I would also note that this land was populated only by Native Americans, look what happen to them, and they are people, not wild beast. With animals, it is the survival of the strongest.
How to co exist. Maybe not realistic to think a Yorkie can co exist with wild beast of pray. Not everything is fair, just not realistic. Man was only successful at keeping grazing animals when he was able to stop his animals from being eaten by wild beast. It is that way all over the world. Most hunters don't want wolves, farmers don't want them, campers don't want them.
Truth be know, suburbs actually attract coyotes. Most suburbians are not hunters, but they provide a ready supply of small tasty animals. Go figure.

Move to Maine Dave... :D and, waaaaaaaaaaaaay outa town. I'm with ya on the whole "space" thing. The reality is, as bad as the over reaction to a pet being killed by one or 2 coyotes... just imagine the results if/when a child is taken. Not only would all of the coyotes within 100 miles be zapped, so would many dogs unlucky enough to look like a coyote, out walking around. Scary thought. I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet with all of the larger and growing packs getting into urban areas. No easy answers.

Don't get me wrong! I'm In agreemence with you all:zip: I wish their was a way with co havitation, SM I completely agree! My inlaws live out in Wisconsin where they basiclly slaughtered every native american and plopped their a$$es right there. I guess basically what I'm saying is, It's a shame to see a species of animal be destroyed before we completely think out a solution. I love the shows Yukon men and Alaska, etc… and I understand they don't need a Grizzly eating threre cattle and their food, I do understand! Sadly it's no different with the fishing industry. My Father said in the early 60's, men were going to fish themselves right out of business…. And they are doing just that!!! Anyway, I do get it Gentleman, I don't want anyone getting hurt, loose a child, a pet etc… and as far as the Yorkie, the lady knew the coyotes were there and she let her little dog out to run anyway, It's a shame. I can't wait to be up in areas like where you are all at to experience it. My only thought here is that I hate to see something die, if it's truly not needed:)

Here is a solution to all the "what if" situations. Mass elimination to every critter that poses a threat or perceived threat to all the encroaching human element. Problem solved, move on to the next perceived problem to the human element..................................

I am thinking maybe its these things that might be hanging around? I also have no problem shooting anything that is a menace. But pretty sure i couldnt pull the trigger on a dog or cat.

Its a shame that we are quick to "fix" the perceived animal issue based on what the critter might do. On the basis, I ask how come we aren't so quick to address human encroachment problems. I ride a motorcycle, just about every time I ride I have to dodge some over zealous yuppie queens or their spoiled prodigy, driving their yuppie mobile Lexus or SUV while they just absolutely have to play with their new I phone. Don't hear about anyone wanting to take definitive action to fix that problem...................:headbang::mad:

Hehehe... why, all that gets taken care of with that red button too Rotti... ;) :D I know what you mean tho... waaaaaaaay too many people trying to live on top of each other. Add severe lack of common sense, or even knowing what it means... while driving... :hair: Maine is now trying to get much stricter penalties for idiot drivers... we'll see how much pushback they get from the hurt feelings crowd.

It's enough to make me want to get out in the woods often... and just soak up... calm quiet.

Moved out of Jersey 30 years ago to get away from the nonsense and now its starting to get that way here too. Problem is I'm now too old to move farther into the bush to get away from it again.......................Just glad I'm not 20 years old.

"if it was not for those in rural areas, they wouldn't have something to eat."... Prolly wouldn't take 7 days without elec for most city folks to appreciate rural farmers a whole lot... you know... the ones they constantly make fun of... :picard:

That won't change. I used to get full of rage about such things. Now I try to think of the Serenity Prayer to keep me in check. What upsets me now is thing like Emma eating poison. One of our brother forum members, @Kinsman Stoves lost ones of his pets to a neighbor who poisoned it. I don't recall how he dealt with it, but he felt that he and his other dog knew who did it.
