We have a nice Ace store in town, been in business a couple/three years. They had a few Stihl items then. Miz Carol said they had expanded the Stihl section.
I had to get a new key chain......
so just happened to walk by there first ;)...
Impressed they actually had 3 pro grade saws on the shelf...

The Ace Hardware’s I’ve been in always have an impressive Stihl inventory. The one in my parents area had the most light bars I’ve seen in stock. It’s the first place I saw the 881. Ace obviously has more money to tie up in inventory and Stihls happy to oblige. Which one did you get?

The ace by me also sells stihl but you wouldn’t think they would carry those pro saws especially the bigger 661 or 881

Ace bought Aubuchon Hardware a few years ago. This is a regional hardware chain that still operates under the Aubuchon name. Our local store has a large variety of Stihl saws and parts.

Pretty soon they'll sell em at lowes right next to the husqvarnas. Maybe then you'll be able to get parts from someone other than a dealer.

I thought gas powered Stihl could only be sold at places that could service them.

Our local ACE has a shop...and a decent (female) tech.
They seem to get some in for when they first open, but it seems like once they sell they don't restock the bigguns...

I've never actually set foot in an Ace Hardware before, so I had to look them up and see where they were in CT. I'll be darned, there's a store one town over from me and it's a Stihl dealer to boot. I might have to check them out sometime and see what they have in stock for chains and other accessories. No plans to ever buy a new Stihl though

Wouldn't your theoretical situation make Lowes a dealer as well? :smoke:

I believe, to be a Stihl dealer of gas powered products, you have to have a service department with a mechanic on staff for repairs and maintenance. Unless they relax that rule, I don't see most big box stores becoming a stihl dealer.

Our local Stihl dealer is our John Deere dealer. Our Husqvarna dealer is our Kubota dealer, there’s also a few local independent shops for Husqvarna.

My JD dealer tried to get me to buy a Stihl saw when I was ordering my new tractor, offered to take my Huskys in as trade. When the Kubota mini ex was dropped off the salesman offered to swap my two less than a yr old Deere tractors for equal Kubota machines. I still hear about it from each of them when I go into the stores.

Last Summer I passed an Ace and "saw" the Stihl sign so I stopped. No pro model saws though.

That 661 would look nice in your fleet Jeff. :saw:

Thinking one of those with some Xtra sausage would be a nasty machine.
