You may have noticed a new tab in the nav bar called hotspots. This is a mapping programs that allows us all to add our location to a map and see where we really are in relation with each other. Please add yourself and we will see how well this goes-- Consider it a trial.

Just a word of caution, if you input your address, it will find your Lat/Long but I would go back and delete the street address once you have your coordinates. ;)

Yep, don't give out more than you are comfortable giving. I have it done to my hometown, that's good enough,

Nope... I dont really like any random person pinpointing me that easy. Thats why I put my county in only. Cool feature though. I may input the main city in the county but no way I am putting my town in. From my pictures I load you could find my house in no time.

That's fine Clem, do what you are comfortable with. We aren't requiring anyone to add them selves, but for those who want to be included this may be a neat feature. It may also attract members if a guest can see there are members in his area.

I could pin point your house right now, but I have no desire to.

I like the idea. Putting the main town is fine for me. Thats close enough to me 20 miles ...so anyone in my area can see I'm withing a certain area but they cant pin me down.

Forestry forum has that feature I think.

I could see this helping nail down GTG locations or meet ups by region. Nice feature.

I am just wondering if the zoom can be limited so it does not get too close in. Just an overview of the state seems adequate to me.

Zip code is adequate for an address. I put in my office zip, not my home zip. Its only a couple miles difference but for those concerned about privacy, limiting it to a zip code might alleviate concerns.

    Great, I like it.
I don't care if my house can be seen. Heck anybody can look it up and see an address. Anybody, there is nothing not available to anyone who can do simple searches. Heck, look at all that junk mail you get with your address on it.
If it does concern someone, just put your town on the locator.

There is a more information that will show your street address if you have entered it.
But think about the number of sports shows you go to and enter your address on drawing slips, just drop in a box and walk off. Tons more of a chance that you will get more unwanted contacts from that from from a group of guys that have your back.

Personally, I'm not too worried about it. Addresses are pretty easy to run down by other means if you know a phone #, last name, etc. I run a business here so my address is no secret for sure. Just didn't want others to accidentally reveal information that they would not otherwise disclose so freely.

Google maps is an amazing tool. We can't control the zoom. Anyone has access to that map at any time. Almost every phone made today has that app..

Clem, this is just a tool to see where there is a large concentration of members. As noted above, this can help with GTG'S and the like. The more users in an area, the easier it is for more people to get together.
