Nice trailer of splits buzz saw. Hey if the back is hurting 40 ounces of Gatorade per day. Should clear up in about three days.
Thanks Joe , it has gotten better. Not quite normal but has improved. Maybe I need another day of Gatorade to make sure it is good.
Oak is pretty much all I burn, because it's what we have the most of. I've got lots of it in waiting too.
Thats what it is. It was given to me from a friend, It needs a little prep and paint work and is on the ugly side but it is solid and a perfect little trailer behind a small truck.
Brought the hydro over and split what I cut last weekend. Rest of tree had been taken down earlier in the week. Spar staying up for clothesline/pulley etc. Half cord load of splits went to storage and stacked in my friends shed. Tailgate malfunction when I tried to open it. He has enough room for four face cords . Active robins nest and an angry momma bird so I stacked in the closest bay. What was still there. Ill buck the huge logs on the grass next and move up to the driveway. Ideal splitting area. Took only and hour and a half to split all those rounds. Uh oh, your infamous tailgate may finally be on the last of the last of its last legs! I like how you included the picture of the robin and nest too. Nice of you to accommodate mama bird.
Tailgate has been on its last legs for a couple years. When there's rounds or splits leaning against it that usually happens. Lots of wood crumbs wedged where it pivots doesn't help either. I use a couple bungees to hold it. Swamp Yankee improvision! Yeah there was fledglings in the nest so I kept my distance. She scolded me for about ten minutes.
Nice cool May day here. Worked the big logs this afternoon. 500i hasn't seen action in a while. 25" bar. Most sectioned up nicely with the Isocore except the gnarly crotch I noodled. Moved it to the driveway. Wish ThomH123 was there to help me wheelbarrow it up the hill. Two logs left below plus the smaller logs just into the woods. It was late and I was beat. Ill bring the hydro and split next weekend. I field sharpened once and the filings caused this log to stain. Never seen that happen before.
Yep, oak will turn black almost immediately with a little moisture and steel. Interesting factoid. If you want to immediately turn oak a grey weathered look soak steel wool in vinegar for awhile and apply. Instant weathered oak.
I see the black where the Isocore contacts it. Always thought that was kinda neat. Have you tried that vinegar trick on other wood types?
PITA moving them to complete cut and I question my "intelligence" about moving them up the hill. Even though he was fine with it I was reluctant about bringing the splitter and PU down there even though I had in years past. Being that the finished splits will sit for a couple weeks I like the fact its on pavement rather than grass/dirt. I still go back and forth about big logs. Yes they make splits fast but with really hard work. I think how long it would've taken me to make the same stack with smaller logs. It was fun to run the longer bar and 500 as its been a while. Still undecided about the SBH. At least those are cut short and I can move them easier.
oh and it gets better. They guy approaches me yesterday and says if I want the rest of the standing spar I can cut it down and take it.
