Way to expensive chuck roast seasond overnight with McCormick steak rub. 7 hours in the smoker and an hour rest in a cooler. Home grown tatties and onions, fresh asparagus right out of the garden.
Funny , I was looking at our local grocery circular that comes in the mail , it had Chuck Poast and the caption said " Great for Smoking" . I thought about it but never smoked one myself. Seeing this I will have to try one ; on sale until mid week so why not give it a shot. And yes , the price is not what it used to be.
I've smoked a bunch of them. When BBQ became the cool thing to do and the price of briskets went through the roof I started smoking a roast here and there. Same flavor as a brisket .
Right now around here brisket is about $3.99 a pound. A good chuck roast is $5 to 7 a pound. Only thing is the brisket is about 30 pounds of meat. I make all my own sausage and grind my own hamburger and I have actually bought whole briskets to grind up for hamburger or make summer suasage or renderwurst out of. Much better than the pink meat in a plastic tube they try to sell as food in some stores.
