MikeInMa reminded us that Lowe's had the bagged mulch on sale. We took the trailer and got a 75 bag pallet of red mulch. Cut back the dead stems and cleaned out the lantana beds, fed them some 10-10-10 fertilizer, spread some mulch. Some have already started new growth. 3 red lantanas and a rose that our kids bought Miz Carol are in this bed. That rose has been moved 3 times, I think it likes this spot. Then we did the other roses Got 1 area in the beauty spot freshened up. Miz Carol finished her beauty spot this morning...
So much nice greenery and blooms. The only thing even green at my place is some tough bits of grass/weeds and greenery for hyacinths and daffodils. I think the last of my snow melted although there could still be a minor amount left on the north side of the house.
Really looking good! Haven’t taken many pics. Spring allergies are off the charts for me this year. I’ve not been enjoying the outdoors much.
The same as bogieb , our last bit of snow melted last night with the rain. Daffodils are coming up nicely, the only green object beside Crocus's. Lot of stream and river flooding, the Ammonusuc cut Rt. 112 in half in the village of Swiftwater in Bath.
Got Pollen? We are in the midst of a pollen storm here in Western Washington. Mostly trees which we have plenty of. My Wife washed the deck off last week and and a day later we had this. It is everywhere! Roof is covered and gutters are full of it and you have to spray off the windshield on the car before driving. I hate this time of year because I feel short of breath and hack and cough all the time and my eyes feel like they are full of sand. Fortunately The trees are starting to taper off. Can't wait for the Scotch Broom to start.
It is just starting to show yellow blooms here. The lot next door is covered in it and it is a real fight to keep it out of the yard. My Dad suffered from it.
Forsythia and bright sunlight doing their thing. The voles got to my rhubarb roots. I dug what was left of the roots last fall. I broke them up. What wasn't hole-worthy went onto the compost pile. I'm happy to see the clusters coming up. These clumps weren't touched by the voles, I think. I didn't dig them up. I've been pushing the voles out of the flower beds and yard with multiple applications of deterrent, MoleMax and Repelem are some products I've used. I think it's having a positive result. Less new rodent holes.
I love Forsythia in the spring. Mom's bush is nearly over. I have tried in the past to take cuttings but I haven't been that successful.
Bend a couple of long branches down to the ground and somehow secure them down and cover in dirt. They'll sprout roots. Next spring cut the main branch from the larger bush. You should still see some new growth, hopefully. Dig it up and off you go.
If you can pin it down into a bucket that can drain, it would save you needing to dig it up. Of course, watering would be needed, to a degree.
My forsythia is starting to bloom. In the past it never really did well. I'm hoping that will change in the future now that the shed no longer sits next to it so I don't have to severely cut it every year
It is on the shady side of the house and in our climate, I don't think it would dry out too much. I like the bucket idea.
