What's up today (bullchiting) thread.

We have had our fair share of “moments”. One night in Acadia our daughter was still in diapers she wailed all night long. The people next to us picked up and moved across the campground the next day. Felt kinda bad about that one. Fast forward a few years now they bring their bikes and we feel ok with them having some freedom. We try to pick a campground with a place to swim as well. S’mores and hot chocolate seem to help. We discovered VT state parks have sites with “leantos” a 3 sided structure with a roof, that has saved the weekend many times.

one weekend mama and I got into the tequila after we put the kids to bed. She went to the bathrooms in the dark and tripped ending up with a pretty good gash in her leg. I duct taped it up the best I could cuz neither of us were suitable for driving. Went to urgent care as soon as they opened in the am. 8 stitches later we were back at the site. Too easy to just pack up and call it quits… builds character.

 

The things you see on a small town FB page - and no, this wasn't an April Fools joke. I thought it was but it wasn't. They were all rounded up safely and led home by the owners according to the comments.

 

Wild weather here. Last night we had storms and over 4" of rain. Lightning hit something within 100 yards of the house (flash and bang at the exact same time). Today is the perfect spring morning, supposed to be sunny and 72 this afternoon. Wind is supposed to pick up and drop into low 30's with chance of snow tonight.

Everything I own with a motor needs some level of maintenance or repair in the next couple weeks. I need to change oil on car, truck, van, tractor, mower, tiller, splitter, and quad. SXS needs oil and diff fluids changed for its break-in period. Quad needs new front axles, valve lash adjusted, and diff fluids changed. Chainsaw needs brake handle replaced. Mower needs blades sharpenend. I think the string trimmer is good to go, so I've got that going for me.

 

Similar weather here in the Missouri Ozarks. Midnight had severe wind, a couple possible tornadoes, power outages. A few places with 2 inch hail and yards covered in ice. Was 76f, high was when storms went through and expect 38f tonight. I've been working election polling site since 5am. Several building lost roofs and over 2000 customers without power. Electric co-ops got power on at all voting locations by 6 am as far as I know.

I'll be chainsawing and cleaning storm damage tomorrow. After I get 4 new tires for the family car. Then work soccer game concessions till 8pm.

Monday I did my full time job, then taught class for 2.5 hours. Then home to eat, wash clothes, and get ready for election today. With tornado warnings only got 2 hours sleep.

 

The front is pushing through here right now. We lost 12 degrees in the last hour.

Are you talking about the Curlies or the Cremellos as the special breed? I'm not a fan of the roundups after hearing the stories of how BLM treats them from rescues that take them from holding pens (which conditions are such that if it was a private owner, they would be charged with animal cruelty) and kill shelters when they can. Also witnesses of them taking foals this year and releasing the mares. They aren't supposed to take any that are less than a year. Several horrendous accidents at the pens, deaths or injuries such that they had to be put down (broken legs etc) and running them by helicopter until they are beyond exhaustion and can't recover. Also heard that they tend to put down the cremellos since they are "blind" - they aren't, they are unique in that they have blue eyes.

OTOH, herd management is probably needed, and maybe those stories of treatment are really rare, so I don't know what the answer is. I'm also sure that it is cool to see the herds as they come running down.

 

I'm not familiar with the story but I'm certain that anyone but the government could handle this more humanely, efficiently, and for less money with better results.

 

We recently listened to a podcast about the wild horses on BLM. Part of it talked about how the horses that went up for “adoption” end up in the meat market of other countries.

 

The problem isn't what you see........

 

You enjoy seeing the horses return, running and enjoying life. You don't see the inhumane "herd management" culling process.

That looks like a 'fjord' horse. I think they were from Norway.
